The House That Jack Built

Typical Lars Von Trier - More bothered about trying to offend his audience than entertain it. I found this a little more interesting than some of his recent stuff (Antichrist, Melancholia) and some of the imagery definitely sticks with you but it's pretty generic serial killer fare with a bit of 'grand guignol' thrown in to make it stand out from the crowd.

I missed this when it came out, as it only got a limited release.

It had fantastic reviews ?

Watched the coldplay docu. Hilarious. The story about how a bunch of middle class kids went from boarding schools to University College London, put tiny bit of effort in and became millionaires. Tim nice but dim makes several appearances. No denying Chris Martin's musical gift but it was such a pointless, bland movie.

The new Spiderman film. Wow. Just sensationally good. 10/10 easy
Unbelievable isn’t it?

I was so very very pleasantly shocked. Like watching a comic book.
Agreed. Great film.

Was a bit worried that I'd be a bit bored by seeing another version of Spider-Man but I loved it. So well done from the animation style, story, characters and brilliant soundtrack too.

Creed 2 - equal to the first one. Michael B. Jordan truly is the next (or maybe current) big thing in Hollywood. Superb actor. Stallone also great, while I was pleasantly surprised by Dolph Lundgren. Worst part of the film was Creed’s wifes music. 8/10

Last night - They Shall Not Grow Old

It's being shown a couple of times in the US through Fathom Events - 12/17 and 12/27, then will go into wider release in 2019.

I thought this was marvelously made - from two perspectives - first, the portrayal of the humanity of the soldiers - the young men, the boys - was just marvelous. Using the interviews with (mostly) British soldiers and archival film, both from the Imperial War Museum, the filmmakers created a moving, human documentary of a horrific period. From the technical perspective, I thought it terrific - the restoration of the images, including colorization, was wonderfully done. Quite the impressive display of digital image manipulation. The presentation by Peter Jackson after the credits, describing some of the technical hurdles and solutions, was very interesting.

Bit like the band after the first album.
