Last Film You Watched

Dr Sleep - really enjoyed it, and I loved the book. There was a lot to take in, and having seen The Shining so many times over the years it makes me want to see this one again before long, as I'm sure there were little things I missed. There is one seriously nasty scene (for a mainstream/multiplex film). Thought McGregor, who often takes a lot of stick from people, gave a very well-judged performance here; not quite as convinced by the casting of Rebecca Ferguson, although she did OK. Anyway, as a fan of both books and Kubrick's film, I thought this was an impressive film that got so many things right when it would have been very easy to slip up, given what came before it.

So worth it?

Well how could you?

Having read some of the viewer reviews a lot seem to be comparing the two.

It’s quite a brave film to make, as a lot of the current generation won’t have read the original Shining book or seen the film, so Dr Sleep won’t be getting them through the doors to see it, especially as Terminator is fresh out too.

I went last night on the second night of opening and the cinema was only a third full - mainly forty plus age group.

Kinda like the ‘fit birds’ thread then?

I’m eager to see the new Terminator.

Definitely. Many will, quite rightly, come to it a bit worried about how it'll live up to the film of The Shining (although many of us had the same thoughts when King announced he was writing a sequel to his book). But it works really well as something that has to walk a tightrope between acting as a sequel to Kubrick's film of The Shining and adapting King's Dr Sleep (which essentially ignores Kubrick's film, given the author's displeasure with it). It's also one of the more ambitious multiplex films you'll see this year. I would definitely like to see it again, but have built up a bit of a backlog of things to see - although I now wish I'd used the time I won't get back on the awful Terminator Dark Fate for another round of Dr Sleep.

Not often you say this about a Netflix film, but this excellent.

Henry V and the Battle of Agincourt.

Timothee Chalamet a relatively unknown American actor, who plays the young Henry V is standout and is surely a future star. Cracking supporting cast too.

Won’t be for everyone as there’s a lot of politics involved too.

Would’ve happily gone to the cinema to see this.

Recommended if you like well made historical films.
