Last Film You Watched

Finally got round to watching No Time to Die.

I really enjoyed, thought it was a great ending to the whole storyline. Loads of little easter eggs tying in some old movies, I thought it actually flew by and didn’t feel like the 2hr 45 it was on for.

My only issue was Remi Malik not being utilised enough and I did not like that Lashana Lynch playing a double 00 agent, very poor actress

Going to try and catch Dune this afternoon

Im very disappointed in you Chris.

Very disappointed indeed :(

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, pleasantly suprised that I enjoyed it. Usually a fan of the Marvel stuff but wasnt expecting much from this however I found it a pretty decent watch. Good fight scenes reminiscent Crouching Tiger type stuff.
Not sure how it’s going to fit into the wider MCU, but enjoyable as a stand alone movie.

Watched this the other night as well. Thought it was ok. Probs not one I will revisit. To be honest, I think I would have liked it better if it has been longer. More on his relationship with Katy. Not spoiling anything but more on Katy and why she made the progress she did.
More on the big bad creature, more on the home and his family, etc.
I reckon a 3 hour film could have gone down really well here.

Just watched nobody with Bob Odendirk.

But far fetched, but was alright and fairly enjoyable, right until they played that sodding dirge over the big fight scene near the end - Booooooooooooooooooooo!

Dead Presidents (1995)

A film which doesn’t get as much love as it should in my opinion.
Helmed by the Hughes brothers, of “Menace 2 Society” infamy, Dead Presidents is a strange beast. It is a War/Crime/Drama that perhaps tries to be TOO ambitious.

It’s a look at the black experience of the late 60’s through to early 70’s, taking in the Vietnam War, the Black Power/civil rights movement, Black Panthers, Drug addiction, PTSD, ghetto life etc.
Plenty of Blaxploitation stereotypes and tropes – a “right on” female Black Panther, a smoothly dressed shark-faced pimp character, some funky 70’s clothing and various low-life brothers hustling in basement bars and pool-rooms.

There is some jaw-dropping violence, including a very messy and unfortunate end for a grunt in the ‘Nam jungle scenes when he gets his thingy..... just watch it alright?

Some very smart location shooting and a great recreation of the Bronx ‘hood in its grimy 70’s prime. A few unsettling nightmare sequences as well.

Plus…. It’s got an absolute SCORCHER of a soundtrack, with smooth soul cuts from Isaac Hayes, James Brown, Sly and the family Stone, Curtis Mayfield amongst many others.
If you’ve not seen this – please do make an effort, it’s a cool movie that history seems to have forgotten.

I always thought the Cutty character – the pimp – was badass, proper cool… it’s worth it just for him…

“Heh, heh, heh, heh, heh. Hey, young-blood. Bringin' in the groceries, huh? Lord, have mercy.
Man, I remember when I was married. I used to love to bring home the groceries.
Made me feel real good.
Like a man. Know what I mean?”

Yeah it's a really underrated one - Used to be obsessed with it when I was at Uni

Not sure what happened to the Hughes Brothers - Looked like they were set to be a big deal

Think the first post credit scene hints at the connection, presumably to The Eternals
