Last Film You Watched

Saw Napoleon last night. Its definitely an entertaining way to kill a few hours but its a total trainwreck from a historical perspective. So much context missed out and so much is just glossed over. The battle scenes where more akin to a fantasy film then anything. Don't get me wrong, its a fun film. I just think that it could've been so much better.
Did they at least explain why he always use to keep his right hand under his coat?

Napoleon is an absolute mess.

The first hour has just been destroyed, as a result of having to shorten the film for the cinema, from the four hour streaming version.

As a result, it just bounces from scene to scene, with no continuity.

For some bizarre reason, there`s no attempt to make any of the cast look older than they did from the very start of his reign and his death, even though there`s decades inbetween.

Some of the battle scenes are incredible, as you`d expect with Scott, but the big one, the Waterloo battle, is really underwhelming and I expected much more.

I wasn`t expecting Gladiator levels of brilliance or even historical fact, but this really is a dud.

My advice would be to swerve the cinema and pay to stream the four hour version, At least that way you`re not watching a film with massive holes all over it.

How bad are we talking in terms of historical accuracy?

For instance, '300' is my lowest bar of comparison... They weren't all ripped and shirtless, and the battle scenes didn't randomly go into slo-mo with the camera angle ridiculously panning all over the show? And they didn't have Napoleon shouting something asinine like: 'Tonight we dine in hell!' to galvanize the French troops?
It made for good viewing, but FFS, it was borderline fiction with some of the tripe they made up in that film!

Saw Napoleon at the theatre earlier today. Not a good film at all though I did enjoy the soundtrack and some of the battle scenes (particularly the Russian retreat at Austerlitz).
Didn’t think they captured Napoleon’s intelligence or charisma at all or how post-revolutionary France afforded opportunities to capable outsiders. The Josephine storyline was way overdone as well

Did you pick up on the fact, that non of them aged !

Based on what I've read on here, it sounds like Ridley Scott's only research for this new Napoleon joint was done on Wiki

Might hold out for the Director's Cut or even Spielberg's HBO series that's in the pipeline.
