Last Film You Watched

It’s been on my “to watch” list for ages now, but finally got around to watching the 1984 film “Threads”.

Thankfully I was only 5 when it was released, ‘cos if I’d have seen it back then I’m fairly sure I’d still be having nightmares about it. Can’t imagine watching it during a time when the threat of a nuclear war was at it’s peak.

Superb film.

I'm not doing it. I can't. My hope has been crushed too many times

All the reviews I’ve seen of it online have been very good. I’ve heard a couple of people say it has the horror elements of Alien and the great action scenes of Aliens. Truth be told some kids could strap some plastic fancy dress vampire fangs to their mums black dildo, call it an Alien reboot and I’d watch it

Not bad but not great seems to be the verdict.

Also, potential spoiler in the vid above.

I loved the first, second was good in a different kind of way, third had some decent bits. Fourth was meh, Prometheus ok, next was poor.

The sequels suffer from a lack of slow building tension that was prevalent in the first film. I suppose with the lack of attention span inherent in recent generations we will never get a slow burning masterpiece that the original truly was.

They've done em all wrong, the real monster is Ash and the knowledge he had and kept from the sacrificial crew. It's always been a tale of corporate greed manifest. Cameron spelled it out in the boardroom scene in II.

I've just booked my tickets for tonight, and I'm looking forward to it after all the great reviews. Ive read (numerous) reviews (without spoilers) that its like a cross between 1 & 2, and ties lots of stuff together well, with a divisive ending. We shall see.

But I agree with you here. Each to their own and all that, but for all that is good about it, Aliens is WAY inferior to the original. As you say, the tension in a slow building story, the characterizations from Alien are all missing from the all out action of the sequel.....and its ok to like bot styles, just as it ok to have a favorite.

To me, the original Alien is one of the greatest movies ever made.
