Sooner or later he is going to leave though, its inevitable. He's a good young player, and we can't offer him the sort of money or success other clubs can.

As i said in the other thread, until investment comes, we are and will remain, a selling club. Expect the same to happen to Coleman and any other good young player we produce.

man united are a selling club when the price is right. who have we sold without being given a blank cheque. NO ONE thats who

Slap a price on him and sell to whoever meets it....and do it well before the window shuts so we can buy some players.

You know that's not the Everton Way, mate. The time honoured procedure is:

  • Use press to create doubt about the players future
  • Offer contract extension on top of contract extension prior to transfer window, dont resolve it and wait for reaction
  • Reassure supporters everything is being done to tie the player down
  • Use local hacks to suggest the player is unsettled
  • Signal to buying club to make their public move
  • Reject any offer in the strongest terms
  • Wait for unsettled player to put a transfer request in
  • Conclude deal with buying club 24 hours before transfer window closes

And rest.

Tis the worry boss man

Gut feeling is Rodwell won't be an Everton player at the start of next season and Moyes won't get more than half of any money made to reinvest/ improve the squad.

Having said that i would hope we get at least £25m for him before we even consider a bid which probably means he will go to City.

ideally id like him to stay but we are so stretched for cash at the mo its likely he will be sold within a yr and a half then its get the best price possible and re invest it into the 1st team.....

Its really sad to see people beaten into submission - saying we need the money - we do - but we should firght tooth and nail to keep him.

Without doubt he will be better then both Gerrard and Lampard, thats the calibre of player we're talking here.

In an ideal world...yes.

But its fighting a losing battle and you have to pick your fights really.

He's a product of the academy, he's not a regular player, and we need to sell to boost the thin squad.

A needed sacrifice really if it came to it.

If Rodders says...I dont want to go, then that will be that, we wouldnt sell him (and probably flog Fellaini who wouldnt really think twice about leaving if it came down to it).

I think all this should be sorted at the end of the season after they've had a break. Moyes should sit the player and agent down and talk about the future openly and discuss what if's so he can plan for the new season.

You could really swap the word Rodwell, for Rooney and we may as well be 7/8 years ago. That was supposed to be the deal that ended our status as low hanging fruit.

Here we are again, two years on from a 20mill + transfer intake after Lescott and we have to sell another player.

Rodwell for me is the jewel of them all, he will be the standout midfeilder of his generation, he is not there yet but this lads ability is something i havnt seen in the English game for generations, i would sell almost anyone ahead of him, i would also prefer not to sign anyone to keep him, if its capiatal we need. I also think Moyes should walk - if hes sold simply to provide him with a transfer budget.

There is wrong and just plain wrong, many dont see it now but this lad is by far the most natuaraly talented Everton player i have ever seen.

Its not a nice position to be in...but its not surprising either due to the board.

The reasons you say we should keep him are the very reasons others want him. Problem is...we dont have a leg to stand on to keep him unless the lad says he wanted to stay because Moyes wouldnt force him out just for money.

We're in no real position to argue that we shouldnt sell him as the other clubs "interested" in him offer more than we can/could.

Viewing it sensibly its the only way we're going to get any source of genuine funds rightly or wrongly.

Not for me to be honest, i would turn down all offers flat, if some of the fat needs to be trimmed id let Heitinga, Billy, Yak, Yobo etc go - as much as i love him, i would prob let Arteta go ahead of Rodwell.

We really need to stick to our guns on this one, how much is Rooney worth now - we were had no mistake.
