Leighton Baines

This inferiority complex has only arrived since Moyes and Bill took over. Even when we were ****e in the 90's we didn't allow other clubs to bend us over, we still had abit of pride in our heritage. In the last 10 years we have allowed Utd to belittle us at every opportunity including Moyes rolling over at Old Trafford every season and lapping up Fergusons praises afterwards.

If you don't respect yourself no one else will and that mentality has finally caught up with us. A younger fan of football would have no idea of the history, size or achievements of Everton Football Club because we have told no one in a long time.

Baines is no physical presence either mate. I like the look of Oviedo, good touch, pace, can pick out a pass. He's been playing on the wings due to necessity and like with Coleman it's probably a good way to get him used to the pace of prem football.

He is, lid. Baines can have it. He's only small but when he tackles someone he tackles them hard.

None of the things you mentioned were defensive qualities either.

EVERTON SAY LEIGHTON BAINES NOT FOR SALE AT ANY PRICE... only people who don't seem to see that as the biggest part of this story are the Manc media and some Everton fans. Everton fans (?????) been on the radio saying that its now inevitable. so a team bids for our players and we have to sell them. just remember this is yours and the manc/London media clowns version of Everton, not the actual reality. if you have a problem with the way the club is run at certain levels and can argue sensibly then fair enough. hysterical nonsense about us always selling our best players though should be left to the comic books we call the press

It's hard to judge his defensive qualities, I've only seen him play the wings. If memory serves he made a brief cameo at left back against Cheltnam.

EDIT* I probably should have specified that I thought those qualities look promising for support the winger from full back.

The Guardian are reporting that Baines isn't for sale at any price and Bill has pretty much said the same when he's said that Fella might go but hands off Leighton.

I've always thought that Bainsey was settled on Merseyside and didn't fancy a move to somewhere like Munich, but he could commute to Manchester. It would be surprising and very pleasing if he would turn down the chance of silverware and CL football because he only wanted to play for Everton.

And, if £12m is an opening offer, it would be equally gratifying if the board turned down the chance of £15m or even £18m for a 28 year old because the player is more valuable than his cash equivalent.

It seems like ridding United of Ferguson's backroom staff isn't enough for Moyes and that now the captain is dispensable too. Surely Giggs must be on his radar as well. It's either brave or foolish to dismantle a winning combination.

I doubt very much that a bid would have been made if there was no indication that there was a will to sell.

Moyes, you absolute weapon. Lost all my respect for him; we're still paying his wages!
What a derisory bid for, statistically, the most creative player in Europe. Purely to unsettle Baines and force a transfer request.

Goodison will be pure evil for the United game. COYB.

why is everyone surprised by this?

moyes knows him as a player and a person, utd linked with him before moyes went there. so there was always going to be a bid!!

and the reported £12m is too low fume fest! what are utd supposed to do? bid £50m then negotiate down ??

moyes knows what we will except!

the fume should come if/when baines hands the transfer request in! tapped up all day long!

Spot on Foz nail on head

Frighteningly good insight. Excellent post this mate.

The wriggle room on that is if Baines puts a transfer request in. But even if he did, that's still a very balls on the table statement from the club, so if they come out of this with less than between £20-25M they are going to look like a pushover. And as others have reminded us today: "Everton dont sell cheaply".

Well, we might revert back to being Everton FC from Moyes FC now that ginger weapon has frigged off and shown his true face.
