Tbf, Osman has started 7 league games this season and we've won 5 of them.

Compared to 3 out of the other 23 games.

He didn't do it single handedly but certainly he's played his part.

And heres the crux, how many of those games would we have won anyway?

And what about the games we lost whilst he played, would we have won them if he didnt play?

And :

Maradona's second goal, just four minutes after the hotly disputed hand-goal, was later voted by FIFA as the greatest goal in the history of the World Cup. He received the ball in his own half, swivelled around, and with 11 touches ran more than half the length of the field, dribbling past five English outfield players (Peter Beardsley, Steve Hodge, Peter Reid, Terry Butcher, and Terry Fenwick) before he left goalkeeper Peter Shilton on his backside with a feint, and slotted the ball into the net.[61] This goal was voted "Goal of the Century" in a 2002 online poll conducted by FIFA.

Maradona captained the Argentine national team to victory in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, winning the final in the capital of Mexico City against West Germany.[56] Throughout the 1986 World Cup Maradona asserted his dominance and was the most dynamic player of the tournament. He played every minute of every Argentina game, scored 5 goals and made 5 assists, three of those in the opening match against South Korea at the Olimpico Stadium in Mexico City. His first goal of the tournament came against Italy in the second group game in Puebla.[57] Argentina eliminated Uruguay in the first knockout round in Puebla, and this meant that they were to play England at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. After scoring two contrasting goals in the 2–1 quarter-final win against England his legend was cemented. The majesty of his second goal and the notoriety of his first led to the French newspaper L'Equipe describing Maradona as "half-angel, half-devil".

So again, can you supply me with the number of goals and assists Leon Osman has provided the team whilst "been the difference between staying up and going down"
Do I really need to start going through every game for assists? It's not just about assists, hence my Peter Reid ref. Can you not just look at the stats, and the evidence of your own eyes? The last three games, I think he was involved in both goals at QPR, won the pen against KIev, he was most peoples man of the match against Newcastle...
Can you not just give the little chap a little credit for his prominent role in digging us out of a ghastly hole

Yeah without that pen vs kiev we'd defo be relegated.

I havent called him a kopite grass for about a week now.

I consider that giving him credit.

In my serious times ive said hes a decent little squad player and hes played his part the last few games, no doubt, im just not having that hes the difference between defeat or victory, sorry, hes not and im not.

Aaron Lennon has contributed VASTLY more than Osman has and hes only been here 2 months, granted thats due to Osman being injured, but still.

I believe that Gibson, less clownish tactics and the removal of Barry and Naismith have been more influential than Osman has against Newcastle and QPR. Admittedly, Osman was slightly above average against Newcastle.

Its not that Osman is a game changer its the what he brings to the team in terms of balance and a calming effect.

If you still can't see what a player like Osman and Pienaar offer our team then i don't think you ever will, i couldn't stand osman for the last couple of seasons i felt his time was up with us and he was just taking up a place that would have been better filled by another player but this season massively changed my opinion on both him and Pienaar and made me realise how crucial they have been to the way we set up.

They are both different to the rest of our midfield in that they play at their own speed, they're rarely rushed into doing something they are not capable of because they know there limitations these days due to age and past injuries taking effect. They both give our team balance that no other player can on the left side, ive been crying out for 2 out and out wingers for a long time but whenever we do try it looks disjointed and players like Barkley, Naismith etc... either lack the intelligence or experience to control the game in order to take advantage of pacey wingers.

Its obvious we need to find a way of replacing this type of player because both ossie and pienaar (who could still be on the way out) are coming to the end of there careers but this is the type of player we need in as a replacement, comfortable on the ball, highly technical and offers good balance with the other midfielders and baines or whoever is LB next season.

I still think a player like Januzaj could offer something similar to this, he is not the quickest and his career will never go anywhere under van gaal, with the right development and tutoring he could become the nearest thing to a mirallas/pienaar hybrid that we could get.
