I find it a bit amusing that everyone believes this latest story is set in stone, they're claiming we're haggling over the price while they are doing the same. Fact of the matter is, they got him for half of that from Feyenoord because they were in a tight spot, now 1,5 years later they feel they should be entitled to 8-10 mil when he has still only played in the Eredivisie which is a sub-par league.
Frankly, I'd think for the money involved there could well be more established players available worthy of the risk.
I'd say if there's a chance of injury relapse then the board is in every right, Lescott was about 4 mil and worth a punt, Demba Ba was crazy wages and agent fees and probably a release clause and Mirallas was 5,5 but has looked the part. Double the fee and none of them would be interesting risks to me.
Think what 8,3 million could mean (with previous transfers in hindsight) for this team, and then what it would mean throwing that money away on a player who is a.) not really proven outside of the Dutch league and b.) risk of reoccuring injuries.
Don't make this into a pipe dream. I'd be made up if he joins and proves himself a beast, but until he's here there's no point in us throwing all our eggs in one basket.
