I've always had the impression that the Echo tries to piggyback on what they gauge as the majority opinion of fans from both clubs:
When Hicks and Gillette owned the RS and the fans had turned against them the Echo was up in arms and in full agreement with their fans that they had to go.
With us they gauge that the majority of supporters still back the board and so they go with that opinion and don't rock the boat. I'd wager that if there was a serious and proper revolt against the board which was backed by the majority of fans the Echo would be the first to jump on the bandwagon and turn against the board.
In short they are being populist and playing it safe, wishing to be seen as backing the opinion of the majority. It sells newspapers.
I'm not saying that any of this fact - just throwing it out there.
In essence they are still a bunch of patronising kopites though.
Doesn't explain why 12 months after a title challenge, with over a quarter of a billion pumped into the team in 3 years, and work starting on a stadium expansion the Echo at the end of this season (which included two semi finals and a top 4 challenge as well as Champions league football) went with a huge inquest on their back page accusing Liverpool's owners (the same owners who saved them form liquidation) of 'going nowhere' off or on the field. The same way as soon as top 4 was out of reach they started openly questioning the position of Rodgers who had nearly won them the title the season before and lets face it was one decent striker away from top 4. That is not reflecting the majority of Liverpool's fan base who would probably have waited another season to see how Rodgers panned out. That article was airing the editor's personal views because they belong to those entitled kopites who believe that Liverpool deserve constant success and want it now.
How did they treat Everton though? Not a word about the board all season despite announcements basically indefinitely postponing Walton Hall Park, and when we were in the grips of a relegation battle the Echo basically told us all to pipe down with all the booing and asking questions about Martinez, we should be grateful for what we have, top half is a success etc. Even in the end of season reviews you'd think we'd have had the better season than Liverpool (the echo probably think we have) as they portrayed us optimistically going into next season whereas Liverpool are in need of a full clear out.
It is a kopite rag that will do whatever it can to keep the status quo of Everton firmly below Liverpool. Even when I checked newsnow there was a link to an echo article on how Italy doing well in Europe was bad for Liverpool's champions league qualification aspirations. Nothing about our champion's league aspirations then, no just a big piece about how 11th is where we should be. The echo is just illiterate kopites writing for other illiterate kopites.
