They countered our tactics very well unfortunately and we naively failed to adjust, especially in the first half. So many of their attacks came from them winning the ball off us high up the pitch. They knew we were nearly always gonna pass it short to the nearest man and took gambles to anticipate and intercept those and then outnumber us on the break

1st goal - Barry lost his man, should've done better
2nd goal - stones too far up jagielka too close to alcaraz leaving Sturridge in acres
3rd goal - what the **** is Howard doing made sturridges mind up
4th goal - jagielka **** up

4 completely avoidable goals, plus Howard steaming out for the penalty, sterling was going nowhere, jagielka was coming across!

I don't think we played that bad, just couldn't handle the pace and directness of the ****e

Also want to say I watched the match in the same pub in Westminster as Andy Burnham (Shadow Secretary of Health). He looked as gutted as I felt. Proper blue.

That doesn't even come close to one of my worst derbies ever. I'll take a 4-0 loss from counter attacks over any of those dire, uninspiring 0-0 draws we've had at Anfield over the last decade or so. The back 4 were terrible, but I wouldn't say it was a bad team performance. Fair play to Liverpool, they got their opener from a set-piece and were happy to sit back and counter.

We went for it, played the best team available. Looked to get into them from the off. Conceded, tried to force the issue. The back 4 let us down, but whatever, win together lose together.

Am I distraught? Obviously. But if that's the attitude we show at Anfield in the future then we've many happy Anfield trips ahead of us. So alas, we've got a boss manager, going well in the league and still in the cup. As always, up the toffees.

Oooh, one last thing. Big shout out to our away end tonight, stayed in great voice throughout, I have a feeling they all feel the same way I do.

Not sure how you can prefer getting hammered 4-0 and the psychological blow that that inflicts to scraping a 0-0 draw which at least gets us a point and deprives them of 2 points.

But as you say, whatever.

Right, seriously I think we needed to expierence tonight before it's gets better. Instead of containment Martinez will continue to try and win at every ground we play at and we will win more than we are used to.

stones is not a rb! showed no pace, when he got the ball in good positions a number of times he never whipped in a decent cross. Missed seamus badly

Going for it > Not going for it

I completely understand that to some results are absolute. But yeeah, whatever.

"we don't care what the red sh*te say..."

of course mate but you know as much as me that its difficult to take. We say it every year, we are better than them yet every year its the same old story. Absolutely gut wrenching tonight. Luckily I watched the match with my mother in laws fella who is 76 so struggled to jump up every time they scored because if jt was someone younger I would have had to floor them after the 3rd through no fault of their own but our awful defending.

Villa will be rubbing there hands at the prospect of Naismith and our back 4 on Saturday.

Good luck Bobby, lad....get 3 point out of that and you will have earned your corn.

Hopefully Distin and Coleman are back.

I'd start Mirallas up top with McGeady on the wing.

We always bounced back after a defeat like this under Moyes.

I'd suspect it will be the same under Martinez.

Eh, wouldn't expect them to be worrying too much if Lukaku was upfront anyway.

Distin won,t make it for Saturday and I suspect it will be too early for Coleman.

Same back 4 unless hibbo comes in for someone.

highly doubt it

hibbert will deffo come in at right back now, whether stones replaces alacaraz or gets moved to cb is a different matter.
