So John Stones is now being called out for being out of a position even though the majority of people picked them in their team before Hibbert.

We were crap, end of.

They, as a group, need to get into training tomorrow and put this behind them straight away. Every time we went to Anfield under Moyes and bottled it, it would usually spell the end of our season, this cannot happen now

I think that's a fair assessment but I'd like to point out that when you look at our 18 shots on goal, how many of them were blocked? How many of them were outside the box? How many of them troubled their keeper?

I'd say that most of them were blocked, most were outside the box, and only one forced Mignolet to have to make some kind of a save.

In short, we couldn't break them down at all in the final third and that was a bit worrying.

I agree. As you can see, I make this point above. But this was due to the dogged nature of their defending and bringing everyone back to central areas.

In truth, their performance reminded me of the Everton of old; only with blistering counter-attacking.

It was still fine margins too; Jags' first half left foot shot at 1-0, Naismith an inch away from McCarthy's cross-shot, the amount of times we got the ball into central areas for shots (i.e. where most goals are scored). We just have to hand it to them; they defended brilliantly and counter-attacked well.

I thought Alcaraz, Barry, Jagielka and Pienaar were absolutely disgraceful s***houses tonight.

Please don't be too downbeat. As a few have already said, we're having an ace season so far, plenty more positives than negatives to date.

Also, now hear me out, I think we played OK tonight.

1. Their first goal came from a set piece where their man got free because our man fell over (and injured our striker in the process). Nothing you can do about that, but it meant the pattern of the game changed.

2. Lukaku going off was also a game changer, as Naismith offered very little presence up top.

3. The goal allowed them to sit back and hit us on the counter, which they did to devastating effect.

4. We kept the ball well and created plenty of chances; 61% possession and 18 shots on goal. Let that sink in. Unfortunately, we lacked end product having seen our top striker go off early on.

5. A lot was made of them pressurising us in possession, but I wouldn't say that was the best feature of their play; their blocking of shots and willingness to throw themselves in front of the ball was a huge difference maker. Think of how many efforts were blocked around the edge of the box.

6. Our defence was poor, but contained only 50% of the usual starters, with a CB playing RB and nowhere near 100% fit Alcaraz and Jags at centre half.

7. Overall, we have to take the positives; we bossed the game at their place for the first time in years. Unfortunately for us, their pace going forward coupled with our under-strength defence performing badly led to them winning.

We started the game with following players less than 100% match fit:

Jagielka
Alcaraz
Pienaar
Barkley

I forgot to add too, Mirallas was immense and Osman showed that he still has a lot to offer as a substitute.

Every time I have watched a derby game at Anfield (in the 80's admittedly) we won. What evil power does it hold over our players that they forget how to play football. I have to admit, that stadium does seem to have a bigger atmosphere than Goodison. You cannot accuse the Reds of being without passion.

It was like Men vs Boys, Liverpool were quicker, stronger, calmer on the ball and far better to be honest!!
£40 odd pound for that we deserve our money back.

Oh and all of our players need to be aware of whats around them especially McCarthy, a good player will have a look whats around them before they receive the ball, none of ours do that so we then turn into trouble, hold onto the ball and get caught out or play it back were its come from when they should turn.

Fuming here like.

Naismith is a disgrace, worst player at the club always said that makes Osman look like Xavi.

and to think we could of flogged him for peanuts and got someone like piatti in for £2 mil as a good squad player.

I never tend to venture out to watch the Anfield derby because it's traditionally the one I hate to watch the most in the season. Felt this time around we'd be in at least decent shape to give them a game on their patch this time around and, against my better judgement, decided to go to a pub (full of kopites) to watch it.

Yeah... never again.
