"we didnt play to bad" FFS

apart from belg kev we couldnt pass or control the ball everything was at a stretch ie toe in to make the pass or stretching to control it.

Villa will be rubbing there hands at the prospect of Naismith and our back 4 on Saturday.

Good luck Bobby, lad....get 3 point out of that and you will have earned your corn.

We will go with super Kev up front and Mcgeady out wide and we will hammer Villa everywhere .

Amen. We only gained a bit of control in second half when the game was well over with and they took there foot off, even then they had us where they wanted on the counter. I don't think it's being detrimental to say we were appalling after a performance like that. It's like we played the whole game 'on the edge.' Never seen such a naive display

Lets take our blue tinted glasses of lads, they outplayed us for 90 mins. The best team won by a mile. We were/are ****e, their front four a a goal machine, a good side would have nullified that. Its gone, build ourselves up for saturday, regroup and get three points

Howard - Poor decision making

Baines - mediocre

Stones - out of position

Alcaraz - Tortoise

Jags - either unfit or sniffed glue in the car park

Mccarthy - anonymous first half when the chips were down

Barry - just awful passing tonight

Pienaar - liability

Lukaku - anonymous

Barkley tried his best, some nice moments but wasn't fit. Leon played well when he came on and Naismith played with more spirit than Lukaku gave.

Super Kev you didn't deserve to be
on the losing side, great effort.

Some world class diving from them but we were well beaten.

Basically we bottled it. AGAIN.

Please don't be too downbeat. As a few have already said, we're having an ace season so far, plenty more positives than negatives to date.

Also, now hear me out, I think we played OK tonight.

1. Their first goal came from a set piece where their man got free because our man fell over (and injured our striker in the process). Nothing you can do about that, but it meant the pattern of the game changed.

2. Lukaku going off was also a game changer, as Naismith offered very little presence up top.

3. The goal allowed them to sit back and hit us on the counter, which they did to devastating effect.

4. We kept the ball well and created plenty of chances; 61% possession and 18 shots on goal. Let that sink in. Unfortunately, we lacked end product having seen our top striker go off early on.

5. A lot was made of them pressurising us in possession, but I wouldn't say that was the best feature of their play; their blocking of shots and willingness to throw themselves in front of the ball was a huge difference maker. Think of how many efforts were blocked around the edge of the box.

6. Our defence was poor, but contained only 50% of the usual starters, with a CB playing RB and nowhere near 100% fit Alcaraz and Jags at centre half.

7. Overall, we have to take the positives; we bossed the game at their place for the first time in years. Unfortunately for us, their pace going forward coupled with our under-strength defence performing badly led to them winning.

We started the game with following players less than 100% match fit:

Jagielka
Alcaraz
Pienaar
Barkley

Bang On. They can score goals for fun...they were and are the better team .
Villa will be tough. Benteke has refound his form and I am fearing he will tear us a new one. Not optimistic at all

I think that's a fair assessment but I'd like to point out that when you look at our 18 shots on goal, how many of them were blocked? How many of them were outside the box? How many of them troubled their keeper?

I'd say that most of them were blocked, most were outside the box, and only one forced Mignolet to have to make some kind of a save.

In short, we couldn't break them down at all in the final third and that was a bit worrying.
