If there was ever a match that showed how valuable Seamus Coleman is to Everton Football Club, that was it.

No attack down the right hand side and they could get forward at will down our left since they didn't have to do any defending.

In short, we missed him (and Distin) big time tonight.

Too many overreactions in here. It hurts alot to lose to the red sh** never mind 0-4 but we are having a great season overall. Yes we have lost to them and we have too many draws for my liking but we are still in with a chance in the FA Cup and European football next season.

We have got a great squad when everyone is fit, add another CM and we are set. We've just got way too many injuries and any other club, even the ones above us would struggle with the amount of injuries to key players we got. When everyone gets back to full fitness, which could be in the next couple of weeks, we'll have quite a good squad. So lets juts stay positive. Roberto have been a breath of fresh air, we'll get better and everyone around us will drop points. It's a matter of winning against the teams we are supposed to win and getting results against the likes of Spurs, ManU, Chelsea, City and Arsenal.
I'm very confident we will finish atleast in fifth place and we'll also have a good shot at wining the FAC.

It's hugely shattering for morale though.

If we don't get a result against Villa and Man U go above us, then it's curtains for our league season. FA Cup it is!

Normally I would be raging but I'm strangely philosophical about it all. Don't get me wrong, it was shocking at times and it could have been worse but we at least tried to play decent football. I feel injuries have caught up with us now, players coming back in will take time to get up to speed and at the same time others are dropping like flies. Tactically we played completely into their hands, going gung ho when we went down and holding a high line when we had no pace at the back. Stones was the player who was always in space in the final third but beating a man or delivering quality from wide positions are not really his forte by the look of it. Coleman was a huge miss tonight. The ref was rubbish, nothing major but continual failure to award fouls against them and then giving very similar challenges by us in their favour.

We will well and truly be discounted from the race for fourth now, hopefully that will work in out favour. It'll take some major wheeling and dealing over the next few days to maintain the momentum though. The gulf between our first 11 and the rest of the squad is too big and that isn't something that can be fixed quickly without bags of cash.

1st goal - Barry lost his man, should've done better
2nd goal - stones too far up jagielka too close to alcaraz leaving Sturridge in acres
3rd goal - what the **** is Howard doing made sturridges mind up
4th goal - jagielka **** up

4 completely avoidable goals, plus Howard steaming out for the penalty, sterling was going nowhere, jagielka was coming across!

I don't think we played that bad, just couldn't handle the pace and directness of the ****e

Spot on. Sorely missed and tonight proved what an invaluable player he is.

Wish I was waking up in Puerto Rico tomorrow after that. Oh, and solid post. Its a shattering result tonight from a pride perspective but four points is by no means an irreversible gap at this stage of the season. I don't care what anyone says.

Whatever. Up The Toffees.

That doesn't even come close to one of my worst derbies ever. I'll take a 4-0 loss from counter attacks over any of those dire, uninspiring 0-0 draws we've had at Anfield over the last decade or so. The back 4 were terrible, but I wouldn't say it was a bad team performance. Fair play to Liverpool, they got their opener from a set-piece and were happy to sit back and counter.

We went for it, played the best team available. Looked to get into them from the off. Conceded, tried to force the issue. The back 4 let us down, but whatever, win together lose together.

Am I distraught? Obviously. But if that's the attitude we show at Anfield in the future then we've many happy Anfield trips ahead of us. So alas, we've got a boss manager, going well in the league and still in the cup. As always, up the toffees.

Oooh, one last thing. Big shout out to our away end tonight, stayed in great voice throughout, I have a feeling they all feel the same way I do.

i do agree tx coleman would have helped.

but i think we was away from home reign in the fullback just a little for 60 mins.

and defo do that with newish defenders in their give them time to settle in defence 1st as they are defenders

think back to wba our last league game we was lucky

we cant keep going away from home and going full on attack and i mean FULL ON ATTACK.

again think back to palace away.

its a tactic thing imo

and needs sorting

still loving bobby but he defo needs to proove that he can buy a defender and teach a team to defend as every good defesive performance this season has come from negative moyes's defence as soon as its split we look shocking.

I know what your saying mate but these just aren't "one of those games" that are put to bed. Getting beat 1 nil or 2 nil is bad enough but 4-0 against that shower is hard to take. Days of them thinking they are as good as Barcelona now follow. We were total and utter tripe apart from Mirallas, Osman when he came on and Barkley considering he wasn't fully match fit. The rest of them were a complete embarrassment to the shirt ( a familiar phrase every visit to the pit ) and Martinez who I absolutely love was naive to the extent my year old son would have set us up better. Lukaku injured is just the absolute icing on the cake. Disasterous night and performance and there's no escape from that. Fair play to our fans who stuck around and supported the lads as well, credit to the club and deserved a lot more than what was offered.

The ironic thing is, it really wouldn't shock me if we beat Villa on Saturday and they get beat at WBA.

They played out of their skins tonight and fully capitalised on all of our mistakes, as they always do in derbies.

They didn't play like that vs Villa or Southampton at home, or Arsenal and Hull away.

I think Greg O'Keeffe of the Echo has said it best in his opinion piece tonight - when the stakes are high in a derby, Everton ALWAYS find a way to fail.

True on all counts.

What bothered me though throughout the match and you mention above was Liverpool's pace. They went through us like we weren't even there.

"we don't care what the red sh*te say..."

We are only 4 pts from 4th so for me we still got a shot at it. Again, teams around will drop points, we just got to start winning against the teams we are supposes to win, starting against Villa.

Once Deulofeu gets back and Pienaar, Coleman, Barkley, McGeady and Traore get back into game shape our form will improve and we'll more weapons so lets just stay positive and trust Martinez. He'll get it right
