Was a shockingly bad deal mate given his age and what he went onto achieve. We were done like a kipper though too. He threw in a transfer request a week before the window shut. We were nearly relegated the season before - we did however qualify for the CL the year after we sold him though, was incredible really.

Remember Bill came out and said he wouldn’t sell him for 50 mill a couple of months before.

Im convinced we didn’t even get the full fee, Neville and Howard were worked in there some how.

Yep I'd say so too mate. It was 2 installments of 10m and 5m on the drip and like you said we probably got a couple of sweeteners on deals for Howard, Neville and Gibson.

£30m?!? From Chelsea. lol

And the other teams name, who we're supposedly competing with?! What a way to run a football club.

Was the Rooney deal the one where Kenwright got him mum on the phone to Alex Ferguson?

Grealish had a buy-out clause. Villa didn't actually need the money at all. They've got owners who could pump money in without having to worry about FFP this year. They spent the money knowing they would get £100m back but they didn't absolutely need it to do so.

It'll go down to the wire this one mate. It'll be who blinks first.
Not according to someone on here last week, saying villa in similar trouble to us. Obviously they’ve now got 100mil in, but they’ve only spent what they brought in. Let’s see what they spend on the next few windows

Everyone knew Grealish was off mate same with Digne.

Absolutely no chance he stays at Everton past this window imo - I wouldn't be shocked if a deal with Chelsea hasn't already been agreed tbh.

Clubs on the brink of breaking FFP dont go spend £30 million as quickly as us unless we knew he was off unless someone like Holgate is a suprise departure which the club knows about yet hasn't hit the media.

I agree Digne probably goes this month but I don't think it's absolutely needed for spending in regards FFP. We were worried about FFP because the finances over the last 3 years since 19/20 would have been the criteria if we qualified for Europe this season.

As we look very unlikely to qualify for Europe then the next time we'd potentially be assessed by UEFA would if we qualify for Europe next season. The 3 years prior to that show a much smaller outlay even with moderate spending this window and the next.

Didnt Newcastle offer more, but Rooney dug his heels in for Utd.
Rumour was Ferguson was going to wait till the following summer, when he’s only have a year left abs get him even cheaper, but Newcastle forced his hand. Apparently not sure how true this is, but Ferguson lived near his agent abs they played golf together. One of the biggest tap ups in history, but you’d never hear that

Seemed like his head turned at the Euros to me mate, I always thought the likes of Neville etc tapped him up.

That’s true about Newcastle forcing the issue

Pretty much every major transfer involves tapping up. Very few clubs are gonna go through the time and effort of agreeing a multi million pound deal with another club without ensuring they know the players interest and what sort of contract will be required.

Maybe, but slightly different when an agent is telling the manager to wait 12 months and his client won’t be signing a new deal

According to the granny shagger himself, Chelsea had the highest offer but he insisted on Man U.
Wayne Rooney talks about feeling 'devastated' when Everton tried to sell him

Think the final figure was just shy of £30m as pretty much every performance goal was hit.
BoE inflation calculator says that about £45m in todays money, or the slightly more dubious Totally Money Transfer Index website has it at a comparable £119m albeit they seem to think final figure was £33m
