2021/22 Lucas Digne

I can't believe it's a minority opinion on here to think that Lucas Digne is a very very average player.

What irks me most is that the consensus is he's not a great defender, which he isn't, but he's not great going forwards either. He can't dribble, he's slow and he's as guilty as anyone for being negative in possession. His strength is crossing, and he's not been doing that well for the last 18 months.

I could swear he becomes peak Roberto Carlos the longer he doesn't make an appearance for us.
It's the tears I don't get. He's been part of a group of players that have been ruining my weekends for what seems like forever. The only player I genuinely care about in this team (apart from Coleman due to his incredible service even if he is now completely dire) is Richarlison as he has consistently fought like a lion for the team. Saying that, I wouldn't even be that fussed if he left either because quality-wise he has major deficiencies in his game.

We are absolutely worlds away from having a group of players like the squad Moyes put together were we'd go into every summer absolutely bricking it because there were so many who could have easily gone on to better things than what we could offer, and we knew they'd be so difficult to replace.

Mykolenko really doesn't have to play that well to reproduce what Digne has been doing for the last year. I do like Digne and I'm frustrated his time at Everton is ending this way because of the manager, but I really hope that this is the start of a new ruthless approach that we take to underperforming players.

100%

Hope the sale happens as soon as possible, it's now just a circus.
The guy is easily our most replaceable player who will bring in decent money - for everyone who's upset about the friendly nature of the club, this is the kind of ruthless transfer decision that needs to be made. Rather him than Richarlison, DCL or Pickford at the moment.
Those bemoaning that the transfer is happening at all -- how are you actually expecting the incoming transfers to happen this window? Someone will have to go, and unfortunately it won't be Delph etc.
We could replace him with Godfrey, in fact we did in our two best games this season, either way we have replaced him with a signing, has as much chance of playing for us again as Siggy, his form over the last 12+ months wont be missed, neither will his instagram posts of days out and holidays while the real squad are training

He is average but he played with his heart on his sleeve and fans like that, but in terms of ability, nothing special and his best years are behind him

Defensively perhaps but not from an attacking and chance creating POV. Very few LB's in the league come close.

But thats the problem, he costs us more goals them he makes, his free kicks on the edge of the box have been a nightmare, 1.170' minutes played this season, 4 bookings and no assists or goals.
Ok maybe if DCL has of played more he might of had better stats but not at the back, we have to move beyond him, same with Coleman

TBF he's been told to play in a different way by Benitez so you can scratch this seasons stats.
