If he continues getting rid of players who don’t want to be here, or put themselves before the team, and brings in players that will give everything for us, then I’d put a decent wager on that in time we won’t suck as much.
Nah, pushing out good players for worse ones won't improve us.

And I know you're going to come back talking about how Digne hasn't been good so don't bother with that. He's good and has been when used in a way that makes sense for his skills. He's also good defensively and that whole narrative is massively overblown because Traore dribbles him a lot and he scored a fluke OG.

That's not the case here. Raffa has let it slip a little here about what's happened...

"So you feel like he's put himself ahead of the team then? That's what you're saying?

Benitez: No what I say is that a team that finished tenth, and someone is worried about the stats, it changes nothing for me like I said before.

I don't want to finish tenth. I would like to be in a much better position now, I'm not stupid, but I don't want to finish tenth.

I want to finish as high as possible and I want to be sure Everton is growing and improving - and we create a winning mentality for the future.

It will take some time, yes, but in the meantime you need players who really want to be here.

Again, I will ask the question - Peter Reid, what will he say if a player doesn't want to be here? Would he be happy with this player, supportive of this player?

The fans will be supportive of this player? It's what we have to consider, what we want to do in the future.

We want to try and grow and improve, or just to manage the egos and then leave the team behind depending on the egos?"

Sounds to me he's said he played better last season, here's why and the Spanish Master has had none of it.

Only one feller has had a wobbler here in my eyes...and it's not Digne. He's also just admitted Digne HASNT put himself in front of the team.

Waiter has then attacked him in the media. Standard response. Fachts
If/when he goes Lucas Digne’s answers to questions about his version of events over the last month are going to be very interesting! Rightly and sensibly keeping his powder dry at the moment, but I suspect he’ll have a slightly different version of events than the “latest” bloke sat in the managers chair!

This is a multi year turn around job to rid the club of decades of poor mentality. An arbitrarily selected low amount of games doesn’t make any difference to that. Yeah it’s not good but these players aren’t good. I’d rather they were exposed and some home truths confronted, and some fall outs, and some arguments, rather than Benitez pandering to them so they can come 11th rather than 15th this season.
I agree there is a lot of deadwood that needs shifting and the mentality of the club needs to change also, but I find it hard to get on board with the stubbornness and awful tactics of this man. And it’s nothing to do with his past, I just don’t think he’s a good manager. I hope he proves me wrong and gets a tune out of these players but as it stands he’s the worst we’ve had.

And this is really what it boils down to with me re Digne.

This is only suddenly a problem because it's Benitez when, in all reality, many fans have wanted this approach for years....

Well yeah, why exactly did you think it would be any different? It’s Benitez, our fans are always going to go against everything he does.

This is what all reasonable fans think but the problem is that Benitez has made the whole thing public so we are in a terrible negotiating position. Every club in the world now knows that Digne wants out and that Benitez wants him out, so they can lowball us and sit back and wait for us to buckle. Like we always do. If Benitez could have parked his ego for a few days and kept his big trap shut Digne would've been sold by now for a decent price, instead he'll likely be loaned out at the end of the window because we've shot ourselves in the foot.
IF there wasn't a WC coming up, or indeed even if there was but he was a nailed on starter for his country then I would probably agree with you. As it is, I think we still hold the cards, especially as there seem to be multiple suitors.

None of us know what exactly happened to make Digne want to leave.

I can't help but feel this may not all be down to a disagreement with the manager.

Digne will be 29 later this year and at the very peak of his career now( or should be at least in spite of a severe dip in form over the last twelve months).

I don't think that playing with a mid table Everton is how he wants to spend the next couple of seasons and I would guess that his agent was asking around to see what interest there would be in the player.

An opportunity to earn more money and fight for silverware at Chelsea(probably) would be hard to resist.
