The mistake we have been making is not selling players before hitting 30. We keep players way too long then we cant get rid. We have 2 young full backs now. Obviously they won't be on fully ready but we give them time to develop. I want to see more of this.

Such as?

I can't name a main player we have that we've kept till 30 after batting back advances from other teams. We keep players at that age because no one wants them.

Coleman? But no one has ever wanted to buy him...and he was still good enough to play...so...

I remember a bunch of people on here demanding we sell Gana at one stage because he was "too old"

Some people think that once you hit 28 you're basically finished

Given the prices that defenders have been going for i reckon this lad even at £30m is going cheap. What was it £80m for Maguire, £50m for ake? £30m seems like a steal to me.

In what respect ?
Richarlison is probably better than Pienaar and Digne a little below Baines all round, but I reckon creatively Baines and Pienaar were superior. It’s all subjective of course.

Greater than the sum of their parts and that.

PSG and Man U wanted him

It depends who wants your players. If Utd or city or even Chelsea want one of your top players, there’s a good chance you can add on an extra 30%.

Baines, Jagielka, Cahill,

It’s right though that the club can’t afford to be doing this. We need to be selling players before they decline whilst market value is still high and reinvesting in younger ones until we shake off these FFP shackles.

The same people who don’t want to sell Digne and didn’t want to sell gana, will tell you, you need to buy young players, think of the sell on value

It's pure Football Manager inflitrating actual real life sport.
Not really, peak anatomical age for a sportsman/woman is 26-29. Obviously everyone is different and some can peak early and others go on longer and things such as injuries come into play and lot's of other variables also.

So our spine of the squad, pre Moshiri, and before we had no FFP.

Jagielka was still one of the best CB in the prem by 30. Baines was still an England international by 30. Cahill was still scoring in 8+ a season at 30.

Additionally...no other clubs wanted them for the value we put on them..apart from Bayern who were interested in Baines.

But does that automatically mean selling them or mean they aren't good players?

Bout at the same time we been crying out for a new right back for years with Coleman past his peak, I think this was the right time to move the player on and bring somebody in younger
