And this is why those who claimed that our bargaining power was severely compromised because of a perceived fall out with Benitez didn't really appreciate the true economics that would actually drive his price.

He's a good player who will attract serious interest at a deflated price, which will drive his price back up to its natural level. Anything at around £25m and we've done well, anything around £30m and we have pulled somebody's pants down.

Important thing now is to just get him gone and bring in more bodies to refresh the team. If this sale allows us to bring in as many as three or four transfers (whether on permanent deals or loans) should hopefully do wonders in refreshing our team.

We should be treating this month like it's a summer window and look to do as much business as possible. We need to get more players out and more players with a similar profile to Mykolenko and Patterson through the door.

Just think of that lovely loot we will get for our moody French friend. Give him 10 enthusiastic games at Villa before he starts to sulk again. Gerrard can't abide non triers.

How do you know that? Rangers supporter? Not saying he won't make it as good Pl manager though.
The mighty Villa have crashed out of cup in the 3rd round!!!
That pushes up Digne value. Villa will need to make a statement to keep their fans happy £30m plus.

Who would have thought it. What a genius move from Benitez.

Never thought he was at his best on the left myself.
I think if he's played on the left of a proper front three, that's his best position - like we played at the very start of last season. It's basically the role that allows him to drift inside into that channel between the goal and the edge of the box.

But we hardly ever, under Benitez or anyone else, play a proper front three, and in that case I think he's probably a striker (if you're playing the ball to feet if he's in a 1, not lumping it around uselessly, or in a 2 with Dom) or is just as effective on the right side in a 4231. He can't really cross like.

The issue with when he plays on either wing is if he ends up being too deep. Like we saw in the Southampton game at home on the opening day, in the first half he was on the left side and was pretty much playing that deep he was on top of Digne, and he's next to useless there.

In my memories, since he arrived
actaully in epl era
almost every goal we conceded from open play came from our right hand side
and almost every goal we scored from open play came from the left lol

Same he was brilliant the first few seasons. He does have issues defensively at times but as an a modern attacking left back he can be really good. Benitez falling out with him likely hastened him leaving by six months. We do have to turn the squad over and we get two full backs in exchange.
