I it really that outmoded for me to say that the stats are not representative of what is actually happening in a great deal of case as no variance is taken in to account?

Maybe the variance is taken into account in these high level football clubs. Massive databases with loads of detail right down to the last minutiae. That would make a lot more sense.

But to just take Player A's assist stats and say he is doing well or Player B is great as he has an XG of 0.6 per game is not really something that is overly reliable.

You are spot on. Player A will also rate differently depending on what player B is doing as well. Data can't design blend or form.

I like stats but the eye test is still better. If someone passes the eye test, thats when you should go into the analytics

Interesting, I would go the other way.

Use the stats to identify a couple of targets and then go and watch them and let the eyes decide.

I suppose it can work both ways, But yeah its an addition rather than the be all and end all which I think some people lose sight of.

Wouldn't surprise me tbh. Tierney is on thin ground by all accounts, a fall out with lego head and not majorly popular amongst the rest of the players.

I wouldn't disagree with that but it's hard to think who our best tackler is , they are all pretty crap.

According to stats, Allan has the most or second most tackles to his name in the Prem.

I would say though in terms of FFP I would happily cash in on either/both Digne & Pickford if it meant having the leg room to bring in 4-5 good players to suit the system.

Probably our two best sellable assets that wouldn't hurt the team.

I think selling Pickford would hurt the team, unless we have a keeper lined up to come in, who is competent and would cost little money. It’s a big ask and the alternative is, we sell Pickford and have to spend what we get for him on a replacement, unless of course, you want to play Begovic or Lonergan behind our dodgy defence.

I have a feeling Benitez wants more of a commanding keeper tbh mate.

Wouldn't personally sell him for less than £45-50 million though considering what Brighton got for Ben White.
