Lukaku - Love affair over ?

I’ve not seen him run much anywhere lately. His trademark finish of running side on with a defender then powering the ball through the keeper seems to have deserted him. I agree though that he hasn’t improved his level since moving to United at all which is criminal really given the prospect he was when he was a teenager. He’s had high level coaching for years yet still has a shocking first touch.

He defo looks more sluggish.

I'm actually angry at Everton for putting me in the position where I actually understand how some fans believe Lukaku is some class footballer.

I guess if you starve a person enough they would think beans on toast is an ala carte experience.

Most overrated footballer I've ever seen

I think in fairness to him, the aspects of his game that are most obvious to fans (and valued most highly) are his weakest e.g touch, creativity, finesse of finishing. He’ll never be an Aguero type wriggling past opponents, one twos, then curling home the perfect Fifa finish. What you can’t deny however is that before this season, hos penalty box movement was absolutely world class. I’ve never seen a striker get on the end of so many cut backs or balls across the area, near post finishes etc. He was also excellent at the non aesthetic finishing, the shots low and hard close to the keeper, the toe pokes, the glanced headers. You don’t get the goals he got without being good at something because there’s strikers all the way down the lower leagues with strength and pace and a bad touch. The things he’s good at though are just not always noticed or valued by fans. Hence the ‘what does he do except score goals shouts’

I wonder that because he started as a professional at 16 that he might have already peaked in his career.

Also, I can’t believe how much of a yard dog he has turned into. His build reminds me of Rondon

Agreed. But I'm pretty certain most of our fans wouldn't want him back either. I quite liked him for most of his time here. Not in his last season though. And certainly not in that summer when we eventually sold him. He's moved on and so have we.
True this, besides if he had never of played for Everton there is not a chance any of us would want to sign the player we see stumbling around at United.

Some of the young blues do have that attachment from seeing him wear our shirt, and I understand it, Andy Gray meant a lot to me and for that reason alone I never took to Lineker and I'd of had Gray back, but reality is you have to move on.
Right now Utd have a big problem with Rom, he isnt good enough for a top 6 side and they blew a big wedge on him, if they could bin him they would but why should we help them move him on and furnish a rival with money to spend on a decent striker, no he is a big problem for them and hopefully he stays there.

His movement in the box is awful. One thing is for certain he lacks bravery. When we had Gerry Deulofeu and there was a period where that lad was fizzing pearlers across the 6 yard box lukaku was back on the penno spot. A player his size should be taking the ball himself and the keeper if he got in the way into the net.

He banged his head against west ham in his first game for us I think. That was the last brave challenge I seen him make.

What has made him a good penalty box operator is his size. He occupies a huge range of space with his reach and was athletic enough to create a yard for a shot. That's all gone.

He is a busted flush. You watch Harry Kane when he goes through a barren patch. He doesn't hide, he works harder, sticks to focusing on the team and basically makes sure he's contributing. The sulky sack of lard who played for us has a look on his face like he wants teleporting to a team who can give him goals. He's a spoilt brat.

He scored 100+ prem goals by the age of 24 because he's big :)

I mean I agree with you that he has some serious flaws as a player (plus the gift of making fans hate him), but let's not descend into complete bolloxology here - As Saintdomingo said above - the lower leagues are stowed with big, fast, strong strikers who can't play football, and none of them find the onion bag like Rom. What do you think he does well?

Ruined himself by turning himself into a heavyweight boxer. His pace and ability to run off the last defender was what made him so feared, he was never this “next Drogba” back to goal powerhouse target man, but it got forced down everyone’s throat so much that he obviously started to believe it. At his best he was a poacher who just happened to be tall. He can’t carry that extra muscle he’s put on, needs to trim down and sort himself out before his career starts spiralling out of control.
