Lukaku to Spurs

We may wish to keep him, I do but I think moneywise, fee and wages he is out of our reach. No doubt he is enjoying his football here but I think he just sees it as one season.

He won't be going to Spurs

A move to Atletico as part of the Costa deal would make sense (although so would including Torres in the deal - if Atletico are stupid enough to agree)

He could stay at Chelsea, but I'm not sure Mourinho rates him particularly and I don't know if he'd be happy being an understudy again after having had two seasons of 1st team football.

As far as staying at us is concerned, it would hinge on us getting CL football. If we believe Roberto, we still have the approx £20m he has saved in wages and transfer fees since last summer - the danger is that if that's all we have, blowing it all on Lukaku would be a big gamble. We probably need 7 or 8 players after all the loans end and we need to put together a squad for the CL next season. We may be able to loan a few more, but it's not feasible to spend everything on one player. I (perhaps naively) think he'd be happy to stay if we were to finish in the top 4.

The other side of that is that £20m+ is an awful lot of money and the lad blows very hot and cold. He's big, powerful, direct, quick, a good finisher and gives us a real presence especially when we attack at pace. The downside is that he has questionable technique at times (I don't think that side of his game is ever going to improve hugely at 21 or whatever he is now), his hold up play is at best average and he is nowhere near as good or threatening in the air as he should be for someone of his size.

I do like him, and I'd happily keep him, but for me it would be all about the price. That's assuming we finish in the top 4 and give ourselves a chance of him wanting to stay in the first place.

Sensible this really. If Bobby can get him for around £15m then I say sign him up, but for £20m+, not for me. I'd rather take a punt on someone like Batshuayi and buy a door unlocking centre mid.

Agreed but we will need atleast 2 strikers next window including lukaku if we get him.

Good point I keep forgetting about traore. Ideally want a new main guy wether that be lukaku, bashuyi ect or competent back up on loan and Kone 3rd choice esp if we look like playing 50 plus games next season

Yeh we need 4 if in Europe, realistically I'd put Naismith ahead of Kone in the pecking order too.

There's quotes in the Mail (yes, I know) from Roberto where he is basically imploring Romelu to stick to where he is happy and appreciated, warning him that the grass isn't always greener elsewhere.

I'm certain we will make a play, and if Lukaku doesn't want to stay, then it's probably best he doesn't.

I really hope he stays though.

I cant see why he would want to go to Spurs at all with everything going on there. One of the big European clubs will come in for him unless Mourinho changes his tune after Lukaku's performances for us...which wouldn't surprise me after the Chelski duds firing blanks.

I don't think it is certain that he will leave Chelsea. Mourinho is unpredictable and can recognise a good footballer better than anybody.
I think it may be part of Mourinhos strategy to play down the role of Lukaku just to show him who is in charge and then keep him at the club as one of their main strikers.
Mourinho was not impressed by whatever Lukaku said or did during last summer, but he is still a player that would do very well for Chelsea.

Best case scenario for us is that Lukaku goes back to Chelsea full of boss Everton thoughts in his head, then storms into Mourinho's office and demands to be their number one striker or he wants out.

Mourinho wont have it given his alpha male complex, and we'll be the first club he thinks about joining. If we finish 4th that is.
