Romelu Lukaku says he feels "blessed" to be working alongside strike partner Samuel Eto'o at Everton. "He's a world class player. He's scored so many goals throughout his career and I've been blessed to be working with him," he said.

"I spend most of the time with him. I come in at the same time as he does, I leave at the same time. We do everything together on and off the pitch as well. "In training we have a finishing competition and the one who loses has to do sprints.
We see each other quite often. He comes to my house, I go to his house. I try to learn as much as I can from him and he tells me stories about how he worked when he was younger."

Lukaku has not been short of senior figures to learn from during his time in England and he has set his sights on making a name of his own that will rival the very best. "Samuel has the same impact as (Didier) Drogba and (Nicolas) Anelka had on me when I was younger at Chelsea," he said "In that aspect I think I've been blessed to work with top strikers like them. I hope to be one of them in the future."
This is great for him and the club. Eto'o was an amazing get :)

That is the truly mindboggling thing because Evertonians have no excuse for it.

Having lived through non-slotting Jeligol, Saha, Cahill up front, the tail end of the Yak years, Beattie, that Canadian lid, Joe-Max Moore, Madar, Mo Johnstone and various other horrors the idea that some of us would show anything other than momentary annoyance to a (edit) 21/22 year old striker who has a goal every other game strike rate, when he isnt playing well, baffles me. We know what isnt good enough, and he emphatically isnt that at all.
Couldn't agree more. When we have had the type of players you listed who charge around like dogs after a ball but barely ever score we were all crying out for a goalscorer. Now we have the goalscorer we want the ball chaser.

Very few strikers have everything in their locker, especially at 21 years old. Lukaku has the crucial traits we have been crying out for, he's fast, powerful but most importantly he's a proven goalscorer. People need to forget his price tag and remember his age, 21. It's bonkers how good he is at that age and the attitude he has towards the game.

Just because people point out some of his weaknesses doesn't mean they don't like him, want him to fail or think he's a bad buy. It doesn't make them a clown or mental. It just means they think he can improve in some ways which is right. There's so much criticism for people expressing their opinions, that's what the forum is for!

The same quotes are posted on the Everton website but those ones also say that Barkley is part of the finishing competition as well. Kev has also said that he's used he quite a bit for advice. So happy that Eto'o is embracing the mentoring role.

A couple of times I have seen Eto'o giving Ross instructions on the pitch...an animated conversation on the pitch at Lille and Burnley.

And I was wondering how they communicated....Sammy doesn't speak English as far as I know and I can't see Ross being much on the old parley vous.

Of course he can improve but he needs our support, not us turning his transfer price into a millstone around his neck, using it to slag him off every time he takes a heavy touch.

Agree 100%

A young bloke, not been playing well, makes a horrendous error and a goal results from it.

A lesser lid might have withdrawn into his shell and hid from the ball after that.

Rom did not.....he showed great mental fortitude and kept his head up.

And he got his reward with a goal.

Agree! I think his mentality is his greatest strentgh ... and his greatest weakness. If he's alright in his head he can do anything. He needs to feel confident. More so than other strikers out there.

Maybe Rom translates it for the rest of the team?

I sometimes wonder whether people watched the game.
Barring two occasions I can think of, his touch and control was spot on.
Occasion one, he gives the ball away with a pass to no-one, they score.
Occasion two, ball is smashed at him from circa 10 meters, he misses the ball completely, bobbles off the defender behind him and we lose possession.

In the lead up to his goal his control was very good, he was a significant part of the intricate play during the buildup.
Clearly his touch is being worked on, and we are seeing considerable improvements as a result.
My criticism is that he could win more balls in the air, as it seems he is constantly mistiming his jumps.

All this being said the lad is boss, scores once every 2 games, and is improving with Samuel Eto'o in his ear mentoring him.
Forza Rom...
