A couple of times I have seen him giving Ross instructions on the pitch...an animated conversation on the pitch at Lille and Burnley.

And I was wondering how they communicated....Sammy doesn't speak English as far as I know and I can't see Ross being much on the old parley vous.
Think he speaks a bit like, he can speak spanish too so im sure between them all they can communicate

Agree! I think his mentality is his greatest strentgh ... and his greatest weakness. If he's alright in his head he can do anything. He needs to feel confident. More so than other strikers out there.

A bit like Anichebe was with us. My former boss a Baggies fan thinks Big Vic is doing a fine job with Irvine mentoring him, so if El Bob/Dunc and Sammy mentor Rom properly, we'll have one helluva CF on our hands when he really kicks into top gear :)

Of course he can improve but he needs our support, not us turning his transfer price into a millstone around his neck, using it to [Poor language removed] him off every time he takes a heavy touch.
I agree the transfer fee shouldn't be used as a stck to beat him with but it shouldn't make him immune to critism either. At the moment he's a good goal scorer but he's got the potential to be so much more than that!

Good point, I've also seen Eto'o talking to Baines a couple of times in the same way.

Perhaps he speaks basic English after his year in the UK, enough to get instructions across anyway, but not enough that he's confident to be filmed speaking.

He does speak some English because I saw him do a post match interview last season with John Terry when he got MOTM, I'd imagine he's improved a lot since then as well.

Saw the same one but didn't Terry mostly do the talking/translating?

Not that I've ever thought of Terry being multilingual, other than perhaps in swear words, so perhaps he had a chat with Eto'o off mike to ask him what he wanted to say.

My hazy memory of it was Eto'o answering a few questions in pigeon English and Terry chirping in here and there, like I said he's likely to have improved a fair bit since then.

I'd imagine he's more than capable now of getting his point across, if some like John Terry can understand him our lads shouldn't have a problem!

everytime he is on the pitch we look a better side than when he isn't, despite this bizarre microscope evertonians seem to have him under
Why is it bizarre that Evertonians want him to reach the levels of last season. Why is it bizarre that a few Evertonians are a little concerned and have noticed a drop in his form. I'm not talking about the morons who have always wrote him off and questioned the huge fee paid; the same lads calling him lazy, bone idle, 50p head etc.... I'm on about the level headed, reasonable fan.

It's one thing playing out of position, i get that. I also get it if he wasn't quite fit at the start of the season. Playing out of position is not an excuse as to why you suddenly can't win a header, control the football and make simple passes to team mates; all things he was doing quite well a few months ago.

I was over the moon when we signed Lukaku, still am actually, think he will be a great player for our club and a very important player; but i wouldn't call a few Evertonians (level headed) who are asking a few questions and scratching their heads as to why the sudden drop off, as bizarre.

Give him time... he's still something of a rough diamond, as are Ross and Stonesy - the only difference is Rom has that £28,000,000 millstone to contend with that Ross and Stonesy don't.

Oh?

Your opening paragraph suggests you agree though, because those are the voices heard loudest on match days, if anyone can't see his value then there is no hope for them, calling him lazy is utter nonsense, probably the same ignorant fans who called felli lazy even though he covers 12 k's a game. It' so so obvious when he doesn't play how important he is to the team, even when out of form we are a much better side with him in it, throw in his age and potential for improvement and anyone getting on the lads back hasn't a clue mate

I do agree and playing Lukaku is essential to our team and who we are about.

However, i have noticed that something isn't quite right with his effort. Lazy and bone idle he is not, but his effort is lacking; i can't quite put my finger on it but something is most certainly lacking. Last season the lad had something to play for; he was out on loan, wanted to prove a point and send a message. Now he plays for a team where he knows he is essential to this team; when fit he will start regardless; he KNOWS this. If he didn't really know this before the start of the season, he does now because we played him from game one when he wasn't match fit and ready to play.

One thing is certain and that is that Lukaku isn't the Lukaku we had 2013/14. I do agree though that Lukaku is a key player to our team and should play each week.

However, the former Chelsea forward has still scored four goals and now feels ready to start on a spree which will help the ninth-placed Toffees climb the table.

“The first two months I was injured but I wanted to play because my team mates needed me,” he says. “It was an experience for me, for the future. I tried to help them but I wasn’t 100% so I couldn’t be as dangerous as I wanted.
“I’d taken a knock in training. The tendon underneath my toe was shut down completely and the joint on top badly bruised.

“I couldn’t push off to sprint because the tendon would almost explode. I had to have three injections before the Arsenal game and then the same against Chelsea. It was difficult for me because I’m a runner. That’s a big part of my game.
“Once you lose your main quality it gives you a real challenge.

“I needed to play more as a target man because I’m tall and very strong. But nowadays in football you need pace. Defenders are so quick; guys like Sylvain and Jags - when I spring against them in training onto balls down the channels it’s difficult for me and them.

“I’ve always been a player who is about movement, making runs all day long. I will do everything I can to always stay like that. “So now I’m 100%. There are exciting weeks ahead for me. “I’ve been training well and scored two in the last three games. I feel well.”

He said: “I can learn a lot from Duncan about holding up the ball. Even sometimes in training he’ll stop and show me something. The way he holds up the ball is so impressive. “Also the way he finishes from crosses as well with his head. It’s all impressive. “I work with Duncan and (assistant manager) Graeme Jones all the time. I go with them after training on Tuesday, Wednesday and sometimes Thursday or Friday. At least three times a week.”
