Lukaku's Everton Frustration

What has upset me is we were going in the right direction as a team. The media where picking up on that and we were being talked about as a good team again. We were even being talked about in discussions for the top 4. We were getting recognition. The media was talking about us in the right way.

Now all they want to talk about is this selfish quilt. Now were just being laughed at by the rest of the leauge and the media. Why can't he just keep his mouth shut.

I will miss lukaku as a player because he is a amazing player but i won't miss the negative impact him as a person brings to the club.

Also if he is so desperate to win things how about you don't bottle a penalty against united in the semi's of the fa cup.

So we can spend 4 years questoning his loyalty, workrate, commitment and ability but he can only speak in summer months?
Honest i am not implying this is you but some members round here have the emotions of a teenage girl.

Not the best timing. I don't think it's right to moan about the lack of ambition from the board with 10 games to go. If he wants to leave perhaps he should speak privately to the club. Just my opinion. Maybe this won't affect the team at all.

It was a club approved interview at a club event. The PR man was even next to Rom during that interview where he said he hasn't any intentions on signing a deal to Belgium tv.

Its a game.

Interesting.....

To be honest in this game of spin and counter spin between the club, agent and player I feel I've no chance of working out what's really going on so I'm going to sit it out and stay baffled...

I think its perfect timing but i don't see it as a way to engineer a move but to let us and board know what it takes to keep him.
I also think he has more ambition than anybody at club and would jump at chance to make real history with club.
Finally i think had somebody we consider an Evertonian from players we would be rallying round thier call.

He didn't miss that penalty on purpose did he? Stupid thing to hold a grudge over. Especially when we equalised 10 minutes later anyway, and especially after he dragged us through the QF single handedly. We lost that game at Wembley because we were unfit, and we had Besic and Gibson in our back 4 ffs.

I agree the timings poor but I don't see how his frustration at the club for not pushing on is "selfish" in the slightest. There's certainly nothing in there to suggest his personality has a negative impact on the club. If I could click my fingers and make every last one of our players have Roms attitude to winning then I would.

On what planet have the past 4 seasons been poor? You have some seriously ridiculous standards if you're not happy with 20 goals a season EVERY season. Yes he's improving, is that surprising? You think he should have been the finished article at 20?

Your point makes no sense, Aguero's only ever had 1 bad spell in his career, and it's every time he plays in the Champions League? Interesting definition of spell. Gerrard had one bad spell in his career and it prevented him from winning the league in his 15 years playing? How unfortunate for that one little blip to happen at the exact moment his entire career was taking place.

I'm not saying he's a £90m superstar, that he's the best in the world or the best we've ever had, I'm simply saying that some of the criticisms of him are ridiculous and come across as sour grapes. He scores consistently, in big games and everyday games. To claim otherwise is simply not true, as has been shown with examples. He is a good player who has some limitations, and areas for improvement. I hope we can keep him, and I don't see why we can't, at least for one more year, although you'd have to question whether it's worth it, seeing as he's been rubbish for 3/4 of his time here.

We are obviously not going to agree here, so we are wasting our time here ;)

I did not say he was poor, especially for 3/4 seasons at all. Im talking about Romelu Lukaku banging on about UCL football since he arrived, yet many would agree he was limited in his abilities if not inconsistent right up to this season. Even then he has had dry spells when the team has struggled, yet the £70-90m pound players can grab a game by the scruff of the neck and win it for his team.

edit: I see why you assumed I meant Romelu has been poor, I didn't mean him exactly, I meant the players in general, Romelu has not been UCL quality until this season was what I meant to say.

The bit that made me bring up this debate is that everyone could see that he wasn't ready for UCL, so no I didn't expect him to be the finished article at 20. I don't expect the finished article now at 23, I think if he was to be the UCL striker he wants to be, then he needs a 'suarez season' like the one at Liverpool. Another words to be consistently top drawer in at least 85% of his games, scoring, creating, holding up play, the complete package. If you think that Romelu is UCL standard then that is okay, its just differing opinions. Personally I say another two years Is needed for Rom to be the striker he wants to be, then he can leave with our best wishes, especially if we aren't in the UCL.

wonder what that might mean

It's just a part of the game being played here.

Rom/his agent say they don't know the ambition, Koeman responds with we're ambitious otherwise I wouldn't be here.

Rom goes away on a break and probably drops something to the Belgian press as he does. He returns to a sit down with Koeman and the board, or just the board.

They lay out their plans. Everybody shakes hands and Rom signs his new deal. He tells everyone he's happy with what he's heard and can't wait to have a real go at the champions league next year while also playing in the Europa league.

If all our players had his attitude to winning, we would win the league.
Nothing wrong with it imo and its what drives the top players.
Basically:
I want to win things, I am good enough to win things, build a team in which I can win things and I will win things in it with you, don't and I'll go somewhere good enough that if I play well I can win things.

What's the issue?

This all day long

I am actually quite pleased he has said something, which one of us as supporters haven't questioned the motivation of our board??? Just unfortunate whenever I have said it, the national press can't be bothered to pick it up... (I still don't read in the article where he says "I want out" or says anything disrespectful towards the club or supporters)
I fully expect him here next season. He is not going to walk into a top CL side next year as their main striker, and he will want to be playing and scoring goals (both he will obviously do here) going into a WC year. Don't make CL next season, he will be off.....and I for one would wish him well if that's the case
