Lukaku's Everton Frustration

Good interview that.

He's clearly been sold the story that Everton are back but like us is waiting for the actual evidence. All the while he's performing at a level fit for a team in 1st or 2nd, not 7th.

Hopefully we make a statement this summer and show Rom and the world that we mean business. But if not I can't blame him for wanting to leave. 4 seasons at any club is a large portion of a player's career. And for 2 seasons he's been performing at a level we as a team aren't matching. I just don't see how people could begrudge him leaving.

I wasn't condoning what Lukaku said ; just stating that Moshiri wants us to win competitions, and not keep looking back at our success over thirty years ago.

Well you could condone it based on it being factually correct.

That's not the issue though. He's made these comments at this moment for a very specific reason.

Raiola tried to pressure the board into concessions by going public with the contract situation. Rom wanted the security blanket of one more season on increased wages in case the bigger clubs had no interest in him this summer for his price tag, and with a release clause involved. I believe Everton haven't wanted a release clause as low as Raiola/Lukaku did, so Raiola has leaked the news that the contract is a no-go, and wheeled out Lukaku to denigrate the club for not meeting his ambitions.

I'm '99.9999%' sure that's the case. And usually I'd say it's fantastic agent work and the player should be happy his man is doing his job.

However, if Moshiri is astute and has the money he says he does to invest, then do something that would be more valuable to our long term ambitions than spending £100m on a player in the summer - bin Lukaku to the reserves, set the asking price and not a penny under, and be prepared to let him sit out the rest of his contract.

See who blinks first.

Maybe we wouldnt have even signed Schneiderlin if Koeman hadn't thrown a hissy fit and pretty much questioned the board himself.

First the manager, then the star striker. Not saying its Moshiri but if someone is scuppering deals over trying to save £2-3mill then they need removing from transfer business - thats down to Moshiri.

Has that ever happened elsewhere ? As I said previously, the summer is where things must happen regarding his ambitions for the club. If once again it proves to be a false dawn I suggest he should retire to The Slough of Despond together with the rest of the Board.
