Has there ever been another case like this when so much has been written about someone who's third choice pick at his own club?

He wants out. He's embarrassed this club. Take the deal off the table that's been offered already. Get rid as soon as the official moment occurs when he can be palmed off. Make an example of this behaviour.
To be fair to him though he's ready to play now and he won't while we've got baines as our 1st choice. He's not going to improve if he's sat on the bench for another season.

If he signs and is then sent out on loan to a prem club then it's a good thing for us because he will be a great player

He's getting game time though. Does he expect to be rubber stamped for a place in this Everton team? I can think of any player barring Howard and Coleman who are automatic starters with no debate.

Left back, right back and goalkeeper are positions where you hardly ever rotate unless injured. Garbutt only got a look in last season when baines was injured. Point is, garbutt is ready to play now and that why he's not signed yet because he's looking at his options. Can't blame him for wanting to play if he knows he's good enough

I'd say he's at a PL club used to being in the running for European places and that competition for places is part and parcel of the deal, no matter what your position.

All about cash this, because you can guarantee he'll never be further up the pecking order elsewhere in the PL than he is here...unless he goes to a club used to being in the bottom half - in which case you have to question his faith in his own ability.

Not necessarily. Footballers careers are short, he's not 18 anymore. He wants to play and he's got two of the best left backs in the prem ahead of him, plus no Europe this season. If Baines and Oviedo go injury free when does he play? He could go to Spurs and have a real equal fight with Rose for a starting spot or he could go to Liverpool where he's arguably better than Moreno their only real option. That's before you even get into who decent clubs like Villa Newcastle or Swansea have where he'd be first choice easily. Just a shame for us that we have so many good full backs, we've four on the books that are better than a lot of teams' first choice.

In reality he's Baines' #1 understudy.

Also, if he cant see the pattern of his own career in front of him thus far at Everton he must be Stevie Wonder. His development and opportunity to play are going in a very steep upward curve. He has to see that and then place trust in the manager who's overseen that development to break him into the first team on a more regular basis.

He could either do that, or he could pick his ball up and walk off the pitch with it to another club where his future is less mapped out than here.

As said above, I really cant be doing with this lad - sign or frig off should be the attitude toward him.

I understand what you mean because of his age he should be more patient etc but I don't think we're going to agree on this one ha. I just hope he stays because I reckon he'll be future england left back in a few years and playing for a top 6 club. I hope that's with us

Hopefully. Anybody can see he's moving towards the standard of Baines without the assists. If he can add that to his game then he'll be top quality. Worth it for the potential alone. Sign him up lads.

I'd argue his delivery/assists are the strongest part of his game. I love Baines but he can only dream of putting in some of the crosses Garbutt has these days.

Blue and white kop.

I wonder if we will see some movement with Bryan Oviedo this summer.
He is an excellent player and is most effective at left back. At the moment when Leighton Baines is fit he plays and rightly so. I am not sure that Oviedo can afford to spend another season just getting the odd game and waiting for an injury or a suspension.... he is too good a player for that.

It wouldn't surprise me to see him leave and that would move Garbutt up the pecking order.

Its really a weird scenario here imo. We have a worldie in Baines, a very good one in Oviedo and a potentially class one in Garbutt. Not a lot of teams have that with their LB's.
