It seems strange now to think but Baines didn't get a regular game for us for two seasons after he signed, he had to bide his time and earn his place, Lescott was our starting left back more often than not.

Again Baines had to wait for his England starting berth behind Cole, all things change and if he wants an example of how to bide your time and secure a starting place he only has to turn his head and look at Baines. For that matter an example of a player that knows the grass isn't always greener elsewhere.

Baines didn't get picked at left back until we signed Felliani, Moyes said at the time that due to our midfield all being small (Arteta, Pienaar, Osman, Carsley,Cahill), that we needed Lescott, Yobo and Wier/Stubbbs to defend set pieces.

Good news if true that. Eddie Howe likes to play decent togger so he'd be learning to play similar to ours, so thats sound.

I do think he's deffo signing a new contract though. If he was leaving there would be so many more concrete stories about him swerving us off and going elsewhere, all its been is a few lids reckoning they have info.

eddie howe a evertonian too, no complaints.

Exactly. Baines had vast experience at Wigan and then had to wait for his chance. Not something the hair gel king will tolerate though. He's a star goddamit..he must play now or he'll stamp his feet and flounce.

So Baines already had 3 years worth of first team experience in the Prem at that age? Yeah, his situation is exactly the same as Garbutt's isn't it

He's not saying it's the same. He's saying Baines had to bide his time when he signed despite being much more proven than Garbutt is right now.
