I do get you what you're saying, but Baines is only 30 so I think 2 years is a little on the low side.

Anyway, my point is more that right now Baines is better at everything and I mean everything than Garbutt. Yeah that must be frustrating for the young lad because it seemingly impossible as you say for him to get the experience which will lead him to improve. It's not a bad thing for us because we have, for me, the best left back in the league. Why would we not play the best left back in the league for as long as he is the best left back in the league? If that means that a prospect can't get in the team and further, leaves because he needs games then I'd have to say thanks but see you later.

I think at most other clubs in the league his performances would warrant more game time, but I cannot see a single thing that he has to his game that would lead me to believe that he should be starting ahead of Baines. I know it may sound like I'm overrating Baines but I think if anyone would want to drop him then they are vastly underrating him.
On paper hes the best LB at the club but on the pitch hes been up and down in form

Bit over the top how everyone is saying get rid and start the kid from now on, but at the same time more rotation between the 3 we have would be a good thing

Garbutt played better last night compared to Baines in recent matches.
Yes I agree and so has Oviedo when he's played, also Garbutt IMO is the best corner taker at the club. Its a shame really all 3 can't be accommodated in the team together as it's hard to pick the best one as they are all great in their own different ways.

Nah Baines doesn't deserve a place in the team. His defending has never been anything to write home about but going forward he's completely fell apart now too. We look far more balanced without him. Just look at how we played last year without him, we played some of the best football I've ever seen us play, as soon as he was reintroduced to the side, I think at West Brom, we looked slow and lethargic moving the ball forward and he in particular was a poor performer. We attack far quicker without him getting to the final 3rd and either passing backwards or not beating the first man from a cross. Even in the games without him this season we've looked better and far more balanced. He always looks lethargic and slow, and defensively an absolute shambles. Have a look at the goals we've conceded this season and you'll find we concede far too many down his side. They're not all his fault obviously, but a lot of them are. He's always in no mans land, just look how far he was standing off the winger for the Leicester goals on the weekend. You don't get that with most decent left backs, you certainly don't get it with Oviedo.

He hasn't been quite the same awesome player he was for the best part of 2 years. In fact I can remember the turning point being Swansea at home in Moyes' last season (think it was January 2013), but he was still good then. His performances have fell even further again now and frankly, he's been absolutely diabolical since November, on a par with or worse than Barry.

There's plenty of Everton fans, particularly on here, that won't have it though. No matter how badly he plays, his poor performances will be swept under the carpet as if they didn't happen. Then they'll try and fit him in the squad at all costs and I don't have the foggiest why. He's nowhere near the player you make him out to be anymore. If it was Osman putting in a similar level of performance you'd all been keen to chase him out the club.

Leighton seems to have caught the tim howard starfish disease, marking space and jumping ,not stopping any crosses coming in. Oviedo engages the winger and stops the crosses at source and garbutt has a left foot you dream about. I can't see the problem at times with playing Garbutt in front of Brian or Leighton.

I think what's encouraging about Garbutt is, is that already at 21 he looks a good player. When did we sign Baines, when he was about 23 or something? And even then, he had a lot to do and had to wait his turn behind Valente & Lescott. Baines was just like Garbutt is now, good going forward but suspect defensively but over time he improved defensively and got even better going forward and Garbutt will be the same.

Garbutt is the double of Baines, he's not lightening quick but a strong runner and gets up and down the pitch all game. Going forward there both good, can link the play and they both have great delivery, and timing of delivery aswell. And there set pieces are good, well, Bainesy's usually are but haven't been great but Garbutt as great delivery from set pieces and it's important we get him tied down to a new deal as in a couple of years, Garbutt is going to be our LB!
