It depends.

Replacing him for now is clearly a priority, as striker is probably the most important position. But he’s athletic, good in the air and hard working. His goalscoring, which unfortunately is the most important thing, obviously could be better.

Is he “ok” for a title chasing side? Obviously not. Is he one of our worst players? Not at all.

DCL will become a very good player for us. He been given a big task over the last months and ran his heart out for the cause . Hasn’t scored enough goals but hasn’t had any decent service or back up . Think the goals will come and so long as he is in a pool of strikers ... keep the faith lads !

I'd like to see a busy wee no 10 in there. Like Silva or John Collins or whatever. Spraying it about with the left foot.

At this point, all I want is a few neat and tidy players that are comfortable in possession and have an eye for a pass.

I really don't like watching the majority of the current lot.

How come Cenk can be brought in and play immediately and not have to wait until the new squad is picked at the end of January, but Garbutt can't?

Don't ask me all I was going by was what I read that Garbutt is not registered, it's doesn't seem to have changed in 2018 so we must have our eye on a LB, so Garbutt won't be needed. If all falls through I suppose he my be included.

Basically we cocked up in August with Garbutt, but if we chose to we can now rectify it.
We reached our quota of 25 players on 31 St August and didn’t include Garbutt. For some reason we included Sam Byrne in the 25 who’s not even near the U23s team let alone the 1st team squad. We also included Gethin Jones instead of Garbutt, which was a reasonable call to cover right back, but you have to say puts Garbutt’s perceived value to us in perspective.

You can make changes to the squad list of 25 during the period of a transfer window. We’ve lost three so far, Barkley, Miralas and Jones and I would suggest should drop Byrne too. That would enable Cenk , Garbutt and two others to be registered . Players u21 are free picks even if they have a Birthday In the season.

30 June 2020..... would you believe. He signed a new five year deal on the back of his Euro League performances in 2014/15; and also he was a regular for the England U21's back then.

I *think* you can only make two changes to the squad as far as de-selecting and re-selecting someone else is concerned

Don't think that counts if you sell a player

FWIW I think people at the club do not rate Garbutt at all, and from what I've seen and heard you can understand why, but even allowing for all of that you'd have to assume that he'd be a better choice in the squad than Sam Byrne

Surely someone has the brain power at Goodison to realise that Baines wasn't going to be able to play a full season/get injured at some point/need cover for rest. I admit, the job Cuco has is a difficult one, and in a way feel a bit sorry for him having to play so out of position. It should've taken some foresight from the staff to realise the lack of a LB though.

I dont know if your fishing here but ive seen Garbutt play very well against a high flying wolfsburg and in other games, ive never watched martina and thought he played well. hes done alright for someone out of position who we never expected much from.

I hope he gets a chance, he looked class a few years ago but for whatever reasons various loans haven't worked out for him, still time for him to turn it round for us clearly though.

Let him train with the likes of Rooney Gylfi Cenk Bolasie Seamus........its got to make a difference
