Luke Garbutt

from what I seen when he played for us he has the ability to be a second choice but maybe his attitude aint right? its obvious that Koeman didn't rate him and lets see if Sam gives him chance

I seem to recall he did well in the EL under Martinez?

..he looked the part and got into the England U21 set up. He hits a ‘heavy ball’ very much like Andy Hinchcliffe, so is useful for set pieces. He was struggling for game time behind Baines, his contract was running down and his stock was high so I was amazed he didn’t chose to leave on a Bosman. Unlike Barkley, he signed a new deal and went on various loans but surprisingly struggled for a game in the lower leagues.

I feel we'd be better using him as LB while Baines recovers and we have Martina as more cover, and spend some money in January on another CF/Walcott, then get someone like Luke Shaw* in the summer.

*or whoever is the best we can get, I'm not saying Shaw exclusively

...it appears successive managers think Martina is a better option than Garbutt. Reading between the lines, Allardyce wants to bring a LB in but if he fails to do that he will consider registering Garbutt. If that scenario transpires, I imagine he’ll still be behind Baines and Martina in the queue.

Victor moses and Harry kane are the perfect example of why sometimes you just need to chuck a player in at the deep end and see how they get on.

....Allardyce has told the Liverpool Echo that he is assessing whether to include Luke Garbutt in the Premier League squad and will make a decision before the end of the January transfer window:

Unless he buys in another two players then this is a no brainier ““My first assessment of the team has to be of that first 25 players selected in that squad and trying to get down to all the other professionals at the club.”

I said in an earlier post that with Barkley, Gethin Jones , and Miralas leaving , plus surplus Sam Byrne in the squad we will have room for Garbutt, so get him in the squad even if Sam believes Martinez is better at LB. All the other left backs we have are u21 so don’t count for squad numbers.
