Garbutt must really have upset Koeman as he chose to name Sam Byrne in the 25 man squad instead. Byrne couldn't even get in the makeshift U23's. Garbutt should also have been named in European squad as he fits criteria for one of the 4 club trained players over 21. As far as I can see we only used 2 of them slots (Rooney and Barkley).
 
We've got a big squad when you account for the 'young' players that aren't so young any more. Garbutt is 24, Pennington 23, Gethin Jones 21, Henen 21, Tarashaj 22, Sam Byrne 22, Conor Grant 22. 7 players there that are probably too old for the youth team and none of whom look to have any hope of playing in the first team.

Browning as well I think in the summer they need a good look at who is just filling spaces. Year on year the squad is getting more bloated. There are over 60 players on the books not including the u18s. Changing manager twice in a short time hasn't helped as they always want to bring own players in.

Of course, Browning is 23 and Galloway also 21. That's nine who you'd think if they were going to make it with us would be in the 1st team squad already.

Correct Bruce and what does the manager et al do but sign players who in years are football OAPs and hence our young talent never get a look in and are thus wasted! They and others should have been playing and forming the basis of a team for the future.

I'm not sure there are many there that are pushing for a first team spot. If you think of our team this season, we've had Pickford, Keane, Davies, Lookman, Vlasic, Sandro, Klaasen and DCL all playing regularly, and all of whom are the same age or younger than Garbutt. We had I think 5 players in the England under 21 team this week, none of whom are mentioned above.

It's not that I think any of them will really add to our team, but more they should all be playing regularly on a permanent basis down the ladder.

Bruce, young players were signed in the window which arguably were not needed, Klassen, Sandro, Vlasic when we have young players available but not really given a chance. A friend of mine who is a regular Burnley fan said of the game that Burnley were only troubled when Favies came on and Koeman uses him as a bit player!!

However the LB slot is a problem which has been allowed to fester. Baines was really looking past it last season and no effort was made for an understudy so now there is a problem. Against Burnley too often when going upfield, Baines hardly had the legs to get back and that was very noticeable. Whether Garbutt is brought back and given a chance is arguable as is the use of any of the other potential LBs we have.

PS we did win the under 23 championship!!!!!!

Why oh why did we allow Galloway to go on loan when we were short at both cb and lb? Absolute madness. Add in loaning out Robinson and excluding Garbutt from the 25-man squad. Unreal

They all need to be given a chance Bruce! Just look at Jamie Vardy some players are late bloomers and we need to stay loyal to these players !!!
