Luke Garbutt

...hits a very heavy ball, very much in the Hinchcliffe mode which is why I always thought a manager like Sam Allardyce would be keen. His delivery from set pieces would be very productive in the right team, very surprising he’s struggled in the lower divisions given that asset.

I believe £50m is the going rate for set piece masters these days.

remember when we were all [Poor language removed] scared he was going to join the rs on a free
And while his contract needed sorting it seemed to herald his decline, skill was still there but application when on loan became poor. Easy to say of course but having a nice fat contract seemed to take the edge off him. Still time for him to make an impact this season for us as essentially Garbutt, Matty Foulds , 19, and Lewis Gibson 17 are the only genuine left footed defenders we have to cover Baines. Then it’s Martina/ Holgate/Besic, scary.

I think it's only when you get to 23/4 that you need to show that you can be at least a decent squad member, if not a starting 11 player. There's still plenty of developing to do at 21/22 still, and so much of it is mental that it just comes with age and experience.
Age of players at the beginning of the title-winning 84/85 season:
Southall 25
Stevens 21
Van den Hauwe 23
Ratcliffe 23 (captain)
Mountfield 21
Reid 28
Steven 20
Heath 23
Sharp 23
Bracewell 22
Sheedy 24
I like Garbutt but you'd think if he was gonna make it has been given more than enough time to show it.
