Did alright for the Dutch as there number one though didn't he mate?
He had a very good world cup in 2010; was part of a disastrous Dutch team at the Euros two years later. The WC he did well in was 6 years ago. What's he done in the game other than a couple of Dutch titles?

I dont dislike him or think he's rubbish. I just look at this and KNOW that we're settling here for a decent keeper when the plan has been to get a top quality one in.

I shouldn't have to defend sticking with high standards for this club. The onus really is on you to tell me why a GK who Koeman left on the bench at S'ton is good enough now for us....

What had Van de saar done before he signed for United mate?

Van der Saar and Stekelnburg?

I'll leave you to work out the difference mate.

While you're at it can you figure out an answer to the question asked about why Stekelenburg was seen by Koeman as fit only to understudy Forster at S'ton, but now he's a number one here at a bigger club?

This season consists of 4 and a half hours of football though.

We need better than him. We can settle with him in and he'll do ok. Is that what we're looking for though - "ok"?

I thought all the talk when Howard was wobbling and Robles looked barley better that we needed to go out and get a top class GK in who'll serve us for years to come?

How soon we forget and how little we accept.

Yeah, it's really hard having to accept a world cup finalist, who's won league titles and played champions league football as our keeper. lol

OK mate such a big difference, yanno what Van der sar had won in his career outside of Holland, 2 intertoto cups, and spent 4 years of his peak playing for Fulham mate

If Ferguson hadn't signed him - then how exactly would it be this thing you find laughable to compare the two?

Another thing about Van der Sar mate, he signed for Juve and played two years there - neither of which they won the title, they won it two years running before he signed and four years running after he left btw. Then he went to Fulham mate (sound familiar this btw, Ajax winner, move to Italy and not a great success and then move to Fulham - who else did that exact path?)

Try judging Stekelenerg against Van der Sar at the same age mate, not against Van der Sar who at 35 moved to United and had by far and away the best success of his career.

Settling for a decent keeper for 1 season could be the right decision though, rather than overspending now on a keeper who ends up not working out for us. If young goalkeepers like Butland or Timo Horn who we've been linked with but haven't bid for have another season at their current clubs then it would make more sense to go get them next year for big fees than gamble on them right now.

If ifs and ans were pots and pans...

...but he did win major titles in England and Europe didn't he?

Should I leave that massive distinction aside and just consider they both played for Fulham as the pertinent point?

They mightn't be available then.

We can hang and see whether Stekelenburg is the new Nigel Martyn, I suppose. He's a reasonable keeper. I just doubt he'll maintain form.
