Is it technically their ground? I mean, wasn't it paid for by sport England (77 million) and Manchester City council chipped in another 27 million, leaving Manchester City fc with the headache of having to raise 22 million. Easy really when you have it handed to you on a plate....
Just saying like.
Technically yes, it's our ground now. Initially we had to pay a £2m per year fee to 'rent' the stadium with an added percentage of our ticket sales being payed to Manchester council. The council also had the right to organise a number of concerts during the 'out season'. Since mansour has come he's made a deal with Manchester council to pay one 'lump sum' to take control of the stadium, we have a Leasehold of over 200 years for the stadium.

It really has been a win/win for everyone involved. City have moved from an incredibly old, run down stadium to a state of the art facility which put us on the market for global investors. Manchester City Council got to host the common wealth games because they had a suitable anchor tenant, The tax payers who've forked out a few million pounds have been more than refunded for it via the investment it's brought to the country and the residents of East Manchester have had a transformation of their neighborhood. Just as an added bonus, over 90% of the work being done around the Etihad campus is performed by local residents.

The Commonwealth stadium has arguably had the biggest impact on Manchester since the ship canal was built and non of it could have been done without Manchester City FC.

I disagree about it meaning "very little", Lee.

We took their best shot in that second half and stood firm.....their first shut out at home in a year.

That has got to be a great psychological boost ahead of the semi.

I agree the only reason to give a toss about last night was the psychological boost ahead of the 27th.

Agree with most of that, but it's the chicken and the egg thing here. City, probably, wouldn't have gotten any investment if it wasn't for the fact that the stadium was built for the commonwealth games. Had the games been awarded elsewhere we could be seeing Hull city or Coventry City in the champions league. Just like the Olympic stadium in east London and the debate about who should have it as their home ground, it's just right place right time.

Kone,Osman and Pienaar, shudder shudder.

When I watched the game against Dagenham on Saturday, there was an obvious reason why Kone, Lennon, Osman, Kev, Gibson are not regular starters. We already know Pienaar is a squad player at best these days, but the lad has been a gem for us over the years.

You're assuming then, that Arsenal won't have any decision go against them which cost them points this season? And while I'm
here, do you have the figures available which show the average attendances of Manchester City and Everton prior to your
move away from Maine Rd? I don't, but I know where I'd be putting my money on.

Just for the record I don't think there's an agenda. I just get annoyed at how obviously human error affects games - and it's not just one game it causes a problem for. If Arsenal win the league by 1 point, then that's cost us a trophy, it's cost us millions in prize money etc. They need to offer a video review system, like in the cricket to iron it out because the referees obviously aren't competent.

Human error by the refs. Always been part of the game, and their jobs are harder than people give them credit for.

Players on the field should play on until the whistle, and the fans should just take the bad decisions with the good and get on with it.

I wouldn´t have video technology anywhere near the game during the 90 minutes. Theres little enough of the ball in play for those 90 minutes as it is.

Wow, you sound like a United fan. Did you seriously count 6,000? Was the game really that bad?

Just FYI, even if there was 10,000 empty seats, it still would have been more than any average attendance you've had since 1970, 46 years ago! Nice little stat that isn't it? :p

Been supporting City long have you, probably about 8 years is my guess! Sorry for not having our ground given to us by the Council like some I could mention!
