We had a go, away, against a stronger opposition, and came up just short. The performance we've been looking for of late was there, just not the result....but in the big picture, just how important was the result rather than the performance tonight?

Despite our history, do we still place seriousness in the trophy winning capability of Everton FC in 2023, therefore feel disappointed that another year goes by without silverware?....Or do we take some optimism going into Southampton from the display tonight, and at the very least be relieved of any more cup commitments that could cause us further fatigue or injury in what our primary concern should be......STAYING IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE!
Exactly. I thought it was a promising performance considering recent results. We continue to show that commitment we're ok.

I suspect if we aren't 5-0 up against saints after 20 mins the boos will kick in and TBF inevitable will happen.

Rubbish, why stay up just to rinse and repeat next season? Every summer we sell our most creative or promosing player to replace them with journeymen. I fancy a title challenge in the championship for a change. Big fish, small pond spell.
If only getting relegated had such a straightforward guarantee of instant success in the championship..... And then having won the championship, we simply shift the "problem" of the competitiveness of the premier league a further season down the road after promotion.

Doesn’t matter if he can deal with it or not. It’s a homophobic chant and has no place in football. There will have been LGBTQ+ fans in the ground who it also impacts.
Yes, I'm not defending the use of the language... but Frank throughout his career will have listened to this and worse.
Chelsea Rent Boy chant will have been used to drive the Chelsea squad on and will remind him of all the trophies he won, he'll chuckle at the fans that sing it as if it affects him

Maybe but winning is a habit, look at Fulham and Brentford since they have come up. We have become the Coventry of the 80s and 90s, always stay up but never do anything.

IMO we have never lacked commitment or fight under Lampard.

That's not the issue.

The issue is a lack of quality across the team - that includes the manager and coaches too of course. It also includes the DoF and board, because they haven't recruited well enough to improve the quality, while letting genuine quality (not amazing players, but players with that edge to their game) leave, for a variety of reasons, some fair, some self-inflicted.

And this is the problem for me. Too many people have seemingly convinced themselves that a new manager will be the silver bullet. It won't be.

A new manager might mean we have a better chance of scrapping to safety in the last weeks of the season and if that's the case then go ahead and hire them, because it's what we need. But without that new manager being backed - just like how Lampard needs backing if he's here - then the very best we can hope for is going into May with a fighting chance of survival, IMO.

The club - the owner, the board, the DoF - it's time to actually have some courage and make a call.

If they're going to sack him, do it now. 9 days until the S'ton game and then it's two huge matches.

If they aren't going to sack him, then we need signings this week. We need two, now Iwobi is injured, but one at the very least in time for that S'ton game.

Those signings should happen regardless of the manager. That's what a DoF is for, and the signings are so blatant for what is needed - a proper alternative to Dom who isn't a midget, and a creative attacker with a bit of composure and guile - then it shouldn't matter which manager is here.
