I don't think we have. I mean, we have a 'director of football' all right but he doesn't actually seem to perform the role.

Shouldn't even have bothered with it

Just because something works on the continent doesn't mean we have to do it here too

Look at the chaos it's causing at Rangers for instance

It essentially demotes the manager to merely head coach status, essentially tying one arm behind their back

Managers should be allowed to manage

..it seems increasingly the way to go in the modern game. I’m not sure there are many high-profile managers out there who are totally responsible for on-field strategy as well as managing all transfer activity.

All the more reason for us to do it differently

It will automatically make us more attractive to the better managers as they'll know they'll have more freedom here

We should never have gone for the DoF model
This
But...
Not only are there a couple of ways the job is done, some emphasis this, some that
Also we had, or so it seems now, too many chiefs, each doing bits - badly as it turns out
Rooney / Kenwright?
Klassens / Walsh or Koeman
Siggurdson / Koeman or Walsh

If I was a manager and my job hung on the decisions of a DoF who doesnt usually get sacked if players don't perform, I'd not be best pleased

..not sure, Mikey. These managers are used to working this way. Surely the problem is not about having a DoF, it’s about having the right DoF.
As I've said before. The high turnover rate of managers world wide is a trend that will continue and possibly become even more commonplace than it currently is. After Arsene who's the longest serving in the PL?

Due to this I feel a DoF is necessary to create a continuity of vision.

...good point. Managers will come and go but the right DoF will maintain continuity.

I don't think they are or were ever needed over here, and see no reason why we have to do it at Everton

We never should have gone down this road
If you don't have a DoF these days, you limit yourself to only being able to appoint managers who aren't used to working in that setup.

Right now there's a fair few of those around... over time that number will become less and less.

Shouldn't even have bothered with it...Nilist

Just because something works on the continent doesn't mean we have to do it here too...Brexit

Seems you're all over the place politically, but so am I...so I agree
