The three glaring errors that have wrecked our start to the season:

  • Bought a boy to a do a man's job up front
  • Failed to replace Zouma with anyone
  • Sold (on the cheap) our best DM

It's had a massive effect and he should be making it right in January, but wont, because "The Boss" doesn't do January.

Same old garbage Dave which you know is rubbish.

Brands has to shoulder a large percentage of the blame for our striker situation. I think he's made some good choices since arriving but this is as ridiculous as Walsh. Why have we gone in to another season without an established striker who scores goals? Kean is a good prospect for the future who should be eased in and in terms of goals, Calvert-Lewin is a genuine liability unless we're happy to be a bottom half side. His scoring record proves that.

We've still not come close to replacing Lukaku.
Davek likes this. All you need to know.

His signings so far:

1/ Indisputable signing success: Digne

2/ Good purchase: Richarlison, Gomes

3/ Decent for fee paid/on a free: Bernard, Delph

4/ Poor buys for cash paid: Mina, Iwobi, Gbamin, Kean (over £100M wasted on these alone).

Worryingly the last two categories are predominated by this summer's deals, so he cant even be said to be getting the hang of it.

The feller has a very basic and average play book on players and fees. It's very iffy (and very expensive when they fail to come off).

He's basically a super agent's hand maid, and that's why we dangle on the end of a piece of string in summer windows, waiting to see what falls in his lap in the £25M-£30M range that others dont want.

I'd like to be like the majority on here and be certain that the big problem is the manager. Unfortunately it goes deeper than that: the problem is the man who employs the managers and buys the players.

We are in a real fix here with Brands, and that's one of the reasons I knew the DoF role for this club was all wrong.

Not sure Gueye was sold on the cheap given his age. I think the main problem with Kean isn't his age its the fact that as a striker he doesn't suit the style of football that Silva is playing. That's a much bigger problem to me https://statsbomb.com/2019/07/moise-kean-player-profile/ because either Silva and Brands aren't on the same wavelength or Brands is incompetent. The centre half failure is a disgrace.

Good stats and analysis there on Kean. I said a few weeks back that the forward line is not blended. That underlines we have one too many decision makers on the hiring of players.

I hold Brands responsible. He's the senior figure and procuring players is his job. For me he is reliant on a straitjacketed method of buying players and with sell on value uppermost in mind. Silva has the short term objective of buying players to win games and fit his system.

Im not bothering as you'll just say "no chance we'll get him" etc when neither you, I or anyone else knows who or who wouldn't come here outside of Klopp, Pep and a small handful of others.

If Silva is the best we can find we are in deep deep trouble.

Not saying he is but he's the man we entrusted and really he deserves more than one season.

But if things don't change quickly then unfortunately he'll have to go.

That is true, for me too much time wasted chasing Zaha, should have been looking elsewhere. The so called strikers who were supposed to fill this role - Tosun, Sandro, Nuasse who signed them? Have I missed any striker signing out?

Still say our dire performances are down to Silva nothing to do with Brands, look at the team agin Man City - Wallcot?????????? for example.

Walcott played 60 seconds. Had no impact on our performance.

You can't hold Brands responsible for Silva trying to chuck long balls and crosses to Kean, though?

Btw, Kean actually looked fairly sharp yesterday playing from the right in an actual 4-3-3 shape. Because he had space to run.

Silva needs to change the system. While you know I agree that Brands messed up in key aspects of the window, he can't do anything about the playing style at the moment.

How can Kean and Gbamin be classed as poor buys when one is injured and looked good in his full debut and the other has looked good when started but the clown in charge is misusing him?

Wouldn’t class Iwobi a bad buy either, barely had a bad game yet and has a couple of goals and assists to his name
