That will be the day Carlo leads the team out at the USM Dixie Dean Stadium at Bramley Moore DockThis could be the biggest vaulting in the history of the forum.
Lad have you ever considered lawn bowls as a sport to followHow can he keep his job when 90% of his signings have been average at best. Digne is the only good one and even he was his second choice. The mind boggles
@Zatara is giving lessons in the proper protocol for multiquotingCan't wait for him to sign so I can dig up all Dave's post where he was sure he wouldn't.
It needs a root and branch clearout and started from scratchApparently we are streamlining.
I don't know what it means on the ground. Would like to see us do something quite radical with the academy to be honest, and would be good if he started getting his teeth into that.
Why do you think hes weeding people out?
I would prefer to be a winning club with a great academySure it is. Prefer being the People’s Club to the club of money laundering for dodgy oligarchs.
I assume you can find a quote to back that upDidn't he say a few weeks back Everton need more ex players in?
Pretty sure he did.
You call the Echo a rag ,refuse to link it because of the boycott ,then you quote it and expect us to treat it as GospelIf you read the E*H* article by Kirkbride (I'm not going to link to the rag, obvioulsy given the ongoing boycott) it's damning Brands with faint praise. Highlighting his disastrous signings and failure to shift players out; that his failures in those respects have been noted by the board. This looks like an extension ENTIRLEY down to Ancelotti...who, I think, just wants a man "above" him to be passive and pliant.
It's a ridiculous decision to keep him here, but if he's kept in the wings *tinkering with the academy* (though how that happens with Unsworth etc still in jobs there is anyone's guess), and it pleases Ancelotti and stabilises him, then it will have to happen.
There was not a lot of clubs looking to sign Godfrey or DoucoureWho needed to scout them? They were all known players to anyone who follow football.
Much easier to scout Allan and James if both have played numerous seasons for youI dont dispute that he's now been sent to look at the bargain end of the transfer market for cover players. But there is undoubtedly a shift to the manager on the major signings made. Big money transfers into the club will be Ancelotti choices and will more than likely happen because of his personal contacts / reputation amongst such elite players.
Things have changed. Brands' tasks have changed. Signing players that can go into the academy or be ready for the bench; and he now has to fit in with the levels of the club currently controlled by coaches outside the first team set up.
And I just see the sale of players as a dead loss now. I think the board realise they will all just have to be kept here and have their contracts run out.
In short: I dont see the big role that Brands plays. He's peripheral now and should not be given the title of DoF. He very obviously isn't that now.
I’m sure he knew. He didn’t give him the insane contract that made him unshiftable. He took the decision to stick with DCL (against the wishs of a voiciferous number on here) and focus on other areas. We do have Richarlison for that role as well.Marcel the football genius should have known that Tosun wasn't good enough.
Bolassie ,Besic ,Tosun Pennington Benni and others would tend to disagreeNeeds to up his game in the summer, no waiting around to sign players days before deadline and them either getting injuries or being non-effective till Xmas.
He’s got rid of most the deadwood now, so there are no excuses.
If we get Europe (and especially CL) It will not be Moshiri bankrolling us ,it will be USM and it will be substantialI think he has nearly cleaned the slate of Koeman and Walsh. Under Carlo, we spent only £67m but only brought in £4m so whether we will be ever spend HUGE like Koeman.
This summer he will have options on Olson and King to join permanently plus transfers out like Kean and Kenny so we will have a healthy income from transfers before the season starts plus we have fringe and loaned out players like Bernard and Gibson plus we have some 2022 contact to renew or cash in like Sigurdsson, Coleman and Delph.
The wage bill will also be down with end of contracts like Besic, Walcott's 50% plus other loan agreements ending.
Hopefully we get European qualification also to add to the coffers which will only make the club more attractive to signings.
Carlo, Brands, Bramley Moore building going ahead plus maybe a European Tour to look forward too. I hope Moshiri backs us even further this summer.
Its the Russian business modelMust say i'm a little bit confused as to how you can have an 'Academy Director' and then a 'Director of Football' who wants control over the academy. I've never worked in a company where a group director reports to anyone other than the head of the company. It seems a very odd setup.
If you have 20m to spend and a 10 m player you cant shift you buy a 20m quality playerI get the feeling that the reasons for this are two fold: trying to achieve the best value for money and the requirement to still shed dross before spending properly.
In an ideal world, we'd be tying up our key deals as early as possible, but until our long-term situation improves I think he'll only slowly change his methodology.
Brands isn't perfect - nobody is - but on the balance on things I think he's done a fairly decent job and I'm not sure who we could obtain who would do better.
If we're aiming for the long-term, the retention of people like Brands is really important.
