If richarlison leaves at the end of the season, on current form, it will be interesting to see what brands could do. Kean is a bit more straightforward for me, as we will do no worse than a small profit.
With 100m from those 2 ,100m from Usmanov and 30m from other bits and pieces Carlo would sign 4 -5 top players for the first 11 and Brands would sign 3-4 youths
There will be plenty of bargains from cash strapped clubs in a post pandemic world
Especially if grounds are not allowed to be filled to capacity (which looks likely in some countries ) at the start of next season
French football (PSG ASIDE ) is basically financially knackered

You call the Echo a rag ,refuse to link it because of the boycott ,then you quote it and expect us to treat it as Gospel
Even by your standards Dave that is quite a leap
No. It wasn't being quoted because I agree with it. It was quoted because it's an example of how even the hype over him from those reporters and those at the Athletic cant make a positive case for Brands.

You're welcome.

But you don't believe a word that the rag say so why should what they say about Brands be any different
That rag will never put a positive spin on anything Everton for fear of having their offices set on fire by gobshites ,or affecting sales
You're welcome

Bolassie ,Besic ,Tosun Pennington Benni and others would tend to disagree
Still a lot of wages to get rid of
And that's not mentioning Bernard who still contributes (just not 100k worth)

Yes, it’s scary how much there actually is but he has managed to shift much more; which is what people give him credit for.

It’s just a shame that it’s taking him so long to bring in replacements for the positions we need (RB, CF, RW, GK).

I would say the only reason those replacements have not been brought in is financial constraints
If we can see the gaps in the squad I am sure Brands and Carlo can see them as well

I think what is odd about it though, was that Unsworth was promoted to that title, at around the same time Brands was supposedly getting involved in the academy. I mean it may all be a coincidence. It seems unusual to me though. My feeling, with various wider noises at the club though, is there isn't complete unity at the top.
I get the feeling that Bill is still sticking his nose in
If Brands goes to Carlo and says what he wants then Usmanov will listen to Carlo
I think Unsworth has an honorary title to keep him happy

It needs a root and branch clearout and started from scratch
If the Dutch do one thing better than brass and smoke its football academies

I had a looked at the 8 years he was at PSV, and it's something like 26 players promoted in 8 years. If you look at the two or 3 that have followed (so building on what he did) they are around 35-40 in those 10 years. These are outstanding numbers.

Interestingly it gets better over time as well, so more and more the longer he is there.

Surely you'd think the club would enquire about what they did? Eindhoven the City has a population around 25-50% of Liverpool city. The entire city region is around 750k, which is again smaller than the city region of Liverpool (though smaller), but Liverpool and the Wirral is around 3 x as big. Alkmaar is around 100k and again produced a lot of talent while he was there. So what did he do with coaching, development etc to bring people on?

I also think we could do a lot worse than look over at Manchester. Look how City have turned the tide on United in terms of youth teams. I don't think we are inferior to Liverpool (the twp teams are normally quite equally matched) but both do it very differently. They tend to spend very heavily on players from outside to supplement their teams. Either way though, City stole a march on United in a lot of cases by offering education at one of the best schools in the area, until they were 16/18 I believe, even if they weren't kept on.

Whatever we think about the rights and wrongs of this, I would imagine it's the sort of idea that would give you a great edge over city rivals when it comes to most parents. I'm surprised we haven't considered it.

I'd be interested to know, how we can attract the best talent, and how we can keep them. I have a few different ideas, but would love to here more.

I judge a team by league position and results. I don't really care if Delph is supposedly better than McCarthy or Gbamin is better than Schneiderlin.

Results are all that matters. At best Brands has therefore done a decent job. An amazing job by a director of football would have us in the top 4 and challenging for cups.
Have you seen our wage bill compared to others
Give Brands and Carlo a 200m wage bill and see how they do

In the majority of cases parents will have a large say on where their children sign
If you offer a PROPER EDUCATION with a decent level of qualification alongside the football side it will as you say sway a lot of parents
I know some will look for the big clubs thinking their Johnny is extra special at 10 years of age and is guaranteed to make it no matter what
However a lot of parents will realize that a very small percentage of kids who sign for PL clubs will actually make a living out of football at any level and need an education to fall back on
Its a question of weather there is enough time in a 12-18yr old boys day for education and football coaching and will the club encourage them to chase both
I know one Irish lad who signed for an English club because the club decorated the parents house inside and out ,and that's not good enough
