10 players out at the same time is a regular occurrence? Think you’re gonna need to provide some evidence to support that.
Go for a cup of tea while you wait for a reply
You could actually go pick the tea leaves ,dry them bring them home and make the tea and you would still be waiting for an answer

Quite a clear fall in popularity for him, which isn't surprising given his earlier cultish status. That can only ever turn out one way.

Whatever else, Moshiri seems very attuned to prevailing fan opinion.

Finishing 8th or lower this year isn't good enough, whatever spin you put on it.

Ancelotti won't be carrying the can for that, so if a sacrificial lamb is required, there can only be one contender.

Let's face it brands has been average, but I think if the club hadn't been throwing terrible contracts at average players for the 3 years or more prior to his arrival we would be looking at this time more fondly.

I've found it helpful to categorise the signings he's made

Good Signings we will hopefully keep
Digne
Godfrey
Doucoure

Good Signings with slight injury issues we need to manage
Allan
James

Good Signings that we'll sell for profit

Richarlison
Kean

Good Youth Prospects
Branthwaite
Nkonkou

Average Players with some resale value
Bernard
Mina

Low risk loans and gambles
King
Olsen

Serious Injuries you couldn't forsee
Gbamin
Gomes (still some value)

Bad signings
Iwobi (Not good enough, and any sale will be massively under what we paid for him)
Delph (contract way too long for his injury record, can't believe we paid actual money for him)

So from this you can see the spread of the signings is quite even, if we were looking at this from a position where the squad was fairly well balanced, you'd take it. Unfortunately, I think he needed a perfect 3 years to really fix the squad and he hasn't done that. He hasn't cleared the deadwood and at times he's added more.

I think if his relationship is good with Carlo, then he should re-sign. Just for the sake of stability.

My understanding with Brands is Brands feels quite uneasy as well.

I think a lot of the underlying measures (squad stability, use of loans, younger players inthe academy, players starting to make it to the match day squad) are actually starting to come through now. It would seem a very odd decision to discard of Brands at this point to me.

However, if we don't finish in the top 8, they are going to realistically say, in 3 years what value have you added to the business?

Don’t think it’s fair to say he’s cleared no deadwood. I think it’s a minor miracle he managed to get rid of Klaasen, Schneiderlin and Sandro on the wages and contracts they were on. He’s have got rid of plenty more if it was his choice, but you need to find buyers for Walcott, Tosun etc which is much easier said than done.

Largely agree in regards to your assessment of his signings. Iwobi and Delph are difficult to understand in hindsight.

I’d keep both him and Carlo for another 2 years. No excuses after that. I’m sick of chopping and changing and stability now is key.

tbf that is his job like

Strange reply really, as you’ve ignored the fact that you can’t force someone to buy a crap footballer. It’s impossible if nobody wants them.

No I'm not disputing that. But it is part of his job, isn't it.

Like, it's a tough part of it, but it is his job. Nobody else has that responsibility in the club.

It is, but it comes down to what you think is realistic and achievable I suppose.

I’ve worked jobs that have set unrealistic targets that were impossible to reach, but that doesn’t mean you should be slammed for achieving 75% of that target if thats what was actually achievable in reality. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect the man to have found buyers for every crap player we have who’s sitting pretty on huge wages. If you do then that’s fair enough, but I’d say he’s done a decent job in the circumstances.

I quite imagine that unless you are doing that kind of job you’ll have no appreciation of what goes on behind the scenes.
Budgets, negotiations and hard decisions. I suppose there’s times where you have to reluctantly sell an asset to raise funds for a player you need more for a certain position Or even keep a player or two you don’t rate because they still have another year or two on their contract and you can’t shift them.
I think that’s about where we are. Which is why the club cannot afford to be as fickle as some supporters are and need to see out the plan that I am sure was drawn up on his arrival.
Furthermore by chopping and changing it’s like we are starting from square one each time.

My main issue is when people say he's 'got rid' of the deadwood.

I don't count having players wind down their contract or farmed out on loan as 'getting rid' of them, because they're ultimately usually still costing us money.

But I also appreciate that with those players it's pretty much all we've been able to do.

My other issue would be with the fact that the players we have signed, while some are very decent, all clearly are quite similar and that's shown up with how one-paced we often are. We are also very shallow in certain areas, either in quantity or quality (or both).

It's nothing more than a 6/10, at a push, at the moment, imo.

I'd understand all that mate, but as you say in your last point I just haven't seen enough emerging signs to convince me that he has a plan, or embarked on a way of doing things that will result in a change of fortunes.

I would have expected a few bargain buys from someone with his reputation, insofar as you can get them in football these days. When was the last time we got someone from under the radar at a European club who went on to be a success? I would have thought that that was the whole premise of Brands appointment. Things would only ever have still been work in progress, but we would be seeing signs of that on the pitch, with young players who are good technically and have other desired attributes like pace and physicality.

I understand the reason Ancelotti assumed primacy for transfer dealings last summer, due to the position we were in, but in part that was due to the car crash the season before. As I see it, I'd rather back Carlo's judgement than Brands, and if that's the case, then there isn't much point in continuing with him.
