2020/21 Marcel Brands

I think it's vital Brands picks this next manager appointment and that whoever it is has a long term vision for the club to that aligns to his. I'm not the biggest Brands fan but hes obviously not going anywhere and it's the only way we get a coherent transfer strategy going forward or any modicum of stability for the future.

What is this all about?

Of course whoever comes in, like Ancelotti, will be Marcel Brands' pick.

Soft touch with everything mate.
We set the standard for PSG when we sold Gueye for £30m.

A year older than Allan, yet Napoli turned down £60m for the latter in the same window PSG got Gueye

And that sale completely undermined anything Silva had tried to get going

Again, not blaming Brands for Silva not having another way of playing, and obviously the Gbamin injury didn’t help, but it was just little nice old Everton rolling over

And then Napoli ended up selling Allan for 20m a season later. So who really did the best business?

Nobody really mate.

we lost our best player for way under what we should have been charging PSG for him (because it’s PSG), and ended up chopping and changing managers and now the new one has binned us off after finishing 12th and 10th

the main issue really with the Gueye deal was not having players in beforehand that we knew could do the job. A bit like how we’ve left replacing Coleman until the very last minute

What you think Carlo was handpicked by Brands and not Moshiri? I appreciate none of us really know the inner workings of upper management but I find the latter far more likely

Yes thats fair, but the point is Napoli were stupid not to take the offer from PSG. That wasn't sensible negotiation.

Of course there will be input from the board, but let's get it right - Marcel Brands is on the board and;

"Our approach now is to have a Director of Football with a broader remit responsible for the whole footballing strategy at the club rather than just player recruitment.”

No manager comes in without Brands' approval.

I do wonder if he has some ideas for the new man that's a bit out of left field. He'll probably have both Moshiri & Kenwright in his ear the entire time though like.

Ultimately, the owners of each club do usually pick managers, but the DoF should have the biggest say in that decision with them.

But we know it'll be Bill
He may pipe up with what manager he wants but none of the managers we have appointed are Kenwright picks lets be honest. If it was up to Kenwright Moyes would 100% be here

I think several of us feel that it should be Moshiri approving Brands' pick, not Brands approving Moshiri's...

Not just that Andy, but they should be continually developing a pipeline of potential future managers.

We all know our neighbours will have Gerrard replace Klopp. That's no accident.
Brands did speak a few times about the door being open for Rooney to return as a coach and I'm sure he would have had a word with Cocu when Rooney signed for Derby.

Also, clear that Baines is at the start of his coaching journey and it's been mentioned that Seamus has "a contract for life" so I do think Brands has at least started this pipeline.
