Once we shift the unshiftable we'll have more room to play around.

Right back was priority one but we added other poor players first. I dont see the logic.

Next year should be much better but it didn't have to be like this. Complete failure by our 2 DOFs has left us here. Overpaying on rubbish players and completely unable to bring in fees to move players on

Probably just that we couldn't get the right back we wanted for £1.5m

…I can only guess your priorities were not the same as Benitez’s priorities. Brands has said he won’t/can’t sign any player without Benitez giving the green light.

every window seems the same as Brands plays the long game and waits for the prices to tumble... or would we rather he overpaid for average players.

The dual approach on recruitment is doomed to fail when we change manager so often. I don't like divisions of responsibility. It creates a lack of responsibility and accountability.

To me it should go like this (hypothetical right-back scenario):

MB: Hey, we've been scouting some right-backs under a certain profile for our system, here are 4 we are interested in. What are your thoughts on them?
Manger: I like him and him, not so much them two.
MB: Okay we'll dig deeper and approach the clubs/players.

How it goes at Everton:

MB: Hey, we've been scouting some right-backs under a certain profile for our system, here are 4 we are interested in. What are your thoughts on them?
Manger: They aren't the profile I want in my team. I like these two.
MB: Okay, they don't fit our desired system but you want them so I'll go ask.

In the event of the second scenario you've either hired the wrong manager or not hired a strong enough DoF to say no.

I think it might be this

More likely, the owner wants a high-profile manager due to ego and has told the DoF that's how this railroad will run, so that the club can attract high-profile managers. The DoF thinks this is no way to run a railroad, but realizes he's paid to do the best job he can under the owner's rules and follows instructions.

Pereira is the straw that’s broken the camels back. What is the actual point of this man. Benitez might want Winks, Longstaff, Rondon, and Pereira, but your bloody job is to provide better targets and say no to him when he suggests we buy utter guff. Brands need punting.

How do we know Benitez wants them? Sounds like Brands targets to me Pereira has links to PSV.
