Marcel Brands

Well obviously not, considering we struggled to shift him out for all intents and purposes.

The deal we got off Juve in the end, considering the circumstances both clubs are currently operating under, was objectively a good one.

Brands hasn’t sold a player for a decent fee since Gueye, who was our most important player and he got rid of him in the middle of the season.

Teams know who they are dealing with and that he is a push over.

He should be providing an update after the window. I can't remember the last time he communicated with the supporters. There are huge questions marks over his position and the lack of interaction certainly doesn't help. i'm not asking for him to do a deadline day news conference like Sevilla did, but a little article on the club website explaining our strategy would be nice. As much as I think he's totally out of his depth, he won't be sacked, so he he needs to outline his plans going forward.

The RB position has been a right stumbling block.

First of all we could perhaps have managed it better but lack of funds has been the big probleme as we have been unable to meet the asking price set by clubs who have had RBs we wee interested in.

In this window two we were looking at:-

Patterson, but there was no way Gerrard was goung to let him come to us, kept upping the price so that was a no go.

Naitland-Miles I think was never on, he was using our interest as a means of getting a better deal with his club which he got. We were used as a means of blackmail.

So do not think this has been a failing by Brands.
I would agree with you were it only this window but the need for a RB has existed for a couple of years

The overall deal is fine if we get the full 38m euros or whatever it was. I think it's just the fact it's over such a long time that was the issue. We probably needed more cash available right now but you have to take the best deal in the round. We have to now reinvest the money next summer.

I’m sure more people would fume if we got a flat £20m for him this Summer.

Isn't 8/9m of that just his wages for the next 2 years? He hasn't actually raked in 40m for him transfer fee. It's a mixture of both loan/wages fee and transfer isn't it?

Depends how you view it. Personally I look at it that we have £10 that we earmark to spend on wages for the next two years but someone says nah, keep it. We haven’t been given a fresh £10 note but that £10 now goes to be spent elsewhere which is essentially extra budget.

If the loan fee of 7m just covers wages but I’m not sure what he’s on.
