Player Valuation: £35m
This chart is very interesting. Highlights how bad a negotiator Brands is. Utterly horrendous when it comes to selling players.

Doesn't exactly show Walsh in a great light either! £60m loss on his sales! Plus most of the ones he bought have been binned off and of those left here only Pickford and Calvert-Lewin are worth keeping! This chart is very interesting. …I’m not defending Brands in the least, indeed I have no strong views on his performance but I’ve become convinced the transfer system at Everton is very much centred on the Manager & even the owner.
Brands is on record as saying he cannot bring a player in without Benitez’s approval. Let that sink in, he doesn’t bring players in unless he gets a green light from the Manager. Meanwhile the Manager and owner can bring in players.
The likes of @davek ‘loudly‘ posts that it’s all Brands fault. He selectively notes most of the good signings are down to the Manager whilst the bad ones are Brands. He even claimed DCL as being a Walsh piece of business when it’s known Unsworth went directly to the board and recommended the purchase.
So, the process as reported is; the Manager & Owner bring in players whilst the DoF recommends players that are only acquired if Benitez/Ancelotti et al agree. We can guess who’s responsible for identifying a target but we don’t really know.
At Everton the power of transfers rests with the Manager. Those who argue for a transfer process led by the Manager have got it at Everton.
Folk also argue about our lack of transfer income, but this isn’t down to sales negotiations, this is down to purchase negotiations. It’s not rocket science that ordinary players on extraordinary contracts are impossible to shift.
The assumption is Brands puts them on big contracts, I have no idea if he does, it would be good to know. We have a DoF but not in the sense other clubs employ one.
As I say, I’m not defending him but I don’t think he is as empowered as some think in the transfer process
But it’s hard to negotiate when your trying to polish a turd. His signings in the main look more saleable with the exception of Gomes, Delph and Allan due to his age. Godfrey, Richarlison, Braithhwaite and Digne have got good resale value.Nobody thinks Walsh was good though do they.
Brands negotiation strategy is to offer players out for pennies. The guy has not got a clue on how to negotiate.
This would be backed up but we've only actually 'sold' one of his signings so far and that was Bernard. But it’s hard to negotiate when your trying to polish a turd. With respect, I don’t think it shows that at all. My take on it is that a lot of those players were unsellable. This chart is very interesting. Highlights how bad a negotiator Brands is. Utterly horrendous when it comes to selling players.
Had not worked with him though. He likes them as a winger and backup keeper. Breaking: manager likes the same players he wanted previouslyBoth linked with him when he was at Newcastle.
With regard to Yerry Mina, I wouldn’t expect to get back what we’ve paid on every player, but I normally would expect to get something back on them, some sort of a transfer fee. The Walsh signings have been absolutely terrible because we have not been able to get even mediocre transfer fees for them. This would be backed up but we've only actually 'sold' one of his signings so far and that was Bernard.
Now, Richarlison is obviously a sellable asset but is crucial. Godfrey and Digne too.
Due to the high wages we've handed out, Gomes and Delph just aren't sellable, and even Mina could fall into that category - i.e. we wouldn't get back what we paid because he's on such high wages, even though I like him as a player.
Then there's others like Allan and Doucoure which, as you hinted at, we bought at their peak so were only going to go down in value. That's fine, you have to do that sometimes.

Walsh is ridiculed on here, I reckon Marcel is probably on double what Walsh was, and they also put him on the board.Nobody thinks Walsh was good though do they.
