Marcel Brands

There's a bigger issue, which isn't really whether Brands has done a good. It's whether ANYONE at the club has done a good job - DOF, chief exec, commercial director, youth team coach...

The issue is there's no accountability. It's a defining part of the culture at Everton. And it's in no-ones interest to see that change.

If Brands performance gets scrutinised, then maybe Ferguson is next or Unsworth or DBB.

Compare this to firm over the park - chief exec booted out after overseeing record profits, PL + CL win. No sentimentality.

We’ve been praying for a rich owner for god knows how long, he comes in and gives managers and DOF plenty of money to spend, delivers a new ground, spruces up Goodison, spends on community projects and still ends up as a bad guy.

That Athletic article yesterday stated that Brands was "shocked" at the wages paid to the existing staff when he arrived. But he went on and made it even crazier.

There's briefing going on about Brands at the moment and hopefully it means there are moves to shift him out. There's no way Benitez will work with Brands IMO.
Wasn't that specifically relating to the under-23's squad? It mentioned some of the wages in thsre were level to a championship team

No.

"His role has come to focus on that task, shrunk to it even, as he strives to mitigate recruitment errors of the past by moving on highly-paid underperformers to free up funds."

People on here blaming Brands for this summer yet the club gave Brands a new 3 year contract and gave the finance director the boot. Interesting...

For what it's worth, I think Brands has made some mistakes and I'm very worried that he is/was pushing for Van de Beek but I still don't think our current situation is totally his fault (and neither do the club).

Of course this mess of a squad isn't totally his fault but I think that we can legitimately blame him for having no cover at full back , midfield or central striker.

Don't we all agree that managers have veto powers though? That makes it a 50/50 split of blame for me.

And with all these rumours of Kenwright and Moshiri being involved in transfers too, how can anyone blame Brands with any real confidence.

It's just impossible to defend him and it's actually hard to envisage how he could have done any worse in this job. The state of our bench after just a couple of injuries is beyond pathetic.

It's bad enough that we've somehow managed to find someone that hasn't improved on Steve Walsh, but to compound our own problems and 'reward' him with a 3 year extension despite a miserable performance during his first contract shows that we are not a serious club.

The squad depth and quality is just awful.

First eleven with the addition of grey and Townsend now has a nice balance to it - but if we get any injuries at all in any position we are significantly weaker.

The state of the bench these last few weeks has been embarrassing for a premier league side like us.
