Original point still stands though, Silva started chopping and changing the lineups against Newcastle, which was ages ago.

Also the same Liverpool players have had to play CL games in December.

But if you look back we all said that the Newcastle game - which came three days after that derby which will have taken a load out of the players. We made three changes and, bar the Zouma for Keane one, they both seemed logical, with Tosun coming in and Lookman getting a go after some impressive cameos. You can't have a massive squad and not use players when the games come thick and fast.

Also, Liverpool have the luxury of quality players in reserve. We don't. They rested several of their star players in the games before the CL games, or vice versa. It's why Shaqiri got a look in.

I don't mean no as zero changes from today, your saying play a pretty much second 11, which is daft. He needs to play a full strength team as he would if it's a league game.

I'm not saying play a second 11. Not at all. It's just our 'first 11' at the moment is crap, isn't it...

We have five/six players who clearly, clearly need a rest.

But that was my original point: only rotate when you have sufficient quality.

Well, I think I've seen six decent signings, all of whom have improved the way we play Our style of play is also much better than it has been at any time since the first Martinez season - I think we were awful today, but there are too many knee-jerk reactions on here straight after a defeat.
Results, of course, could have been better, but we need to give Marco two seasons to get it right.

Pretty sure he’ll get the two seasons minimum so hope you’re right Stan.

But we should have sufficient quality... Lookman is good enough to start. Tosun/DCL should be good enough to start.

If you recall, he had to change v City and Spurs because Gana got injured.

Everton have a very in-depth sports science team which is used to measure player fatigue etc. This all plays a part. It's not plug-in and play.

But Joey, who comes in for Walcott and Gomes?

Davies was awful against Spurs and Lookman is injured. Bernard looked a bit knackered v Brighton.
davies played in the reverse fixture as captain v Leicester away we won....... never seen him since and hows for indecisiveness had him waiting to come on for the ineffective Gomez today.......
then we went a goal down and he changed his mind fgs!

What, so he shouldn't change it from a team that has just put in our worst display of the season???

Good logic.

He should only be making changes based on form.

Our season rests on the FA Cup. If we get humiliated at home to a league 2 team then there will be absolutely no excuses. If he makes wholesale changes, say 8 or more, then it shows how out of touch he is with what it means to manage Everton.

Tbh I think on paper we bought well in the summer, potentially we have Walcott,Ricarlison,Bernard,Sigs,Lookman,Digne,Coleman? Who should be and capable of supplying a striker, any striker You would imagine would thrive off that and get 20 a season easy. Problem is the suppliers I mentioned as a whole are probably only playing to 30% of what they are capable of. Coleman,Walcott have been the worst and IMO Sigs is well below par, if them 3 upped there game things would improve. The other problem is the 30% they are getting right we haven’t got a striker capable of putting a ball in the net. If and it’s a big IF, Silva can get them lit up to 60/70% of what they are capable of, then get brands to get him a half decent striker he might just save his job. Them lot mentioned are good footballers but hrrr atm they look terrible footballers.

I was a bit miffed by that as well, Joey. I understood going more attacking, but the answer wasn't to completely change/lose shape.

But Davies went out of the side because Gomes is a better player. Since that happened, Davies came in and was dreadful v Spurs. I know that's a tough game, but you can't predict that a player is going to go out and be ineffective. If you could, footy would be pretty easy.

Based on form Lica Digne should be the only play deffo starting Saturday

Not one other player has done enough to be assured of their slot so if he changes 10 players it won't be down to resting them, they should be rightly dropped

Fine, and which of our players - on form - would you keep in?

If a player is fatigued, their form will suffer. No?

Yep, I'd be going for

Pickford
Kenny
Mina
Zouma
Baines
Davies
Gueye
Bernard
Lookman
And yeah pick 2 for up top from the crap options available. Stick Niasse up top with Tosun for a giggle
If Silva picks that team, he may as well submit his resignation letter pinned to the teamsheet.

Why not? Salah, firmino and mane have all started Liverpool's last three games and will almost certainly start again on Thursday.

Once a season the players have to play 3 times in 8 days. I believe they are capable of doing that.

Thing is, there are professional football levels of fitness - which is of course an elite level - but then there’s Uber elite fitness. The Liverpool and Man City players are super fit, supported by cutting edge technology and surrounded by world class fitness personnel. I asked the question elsewhere: what resources do we have to keep our players sharp throughout the season while trying to play high paced pressing and attacking football?
