AVB is a bit of a weirdo which doesn't help his cause.

We're a weird club,a good fit maybe? People keep saying we should sign a winner.It'll be the only chance we have to sign someone who's won a European trophy.

For me he has shown glimpses of good potential working with some absolute atrocious players, None of them would get close to this squad and he still got some nifty results, He's a decent chance.

Only question is will he be any good at getting the best from supposedly better ones, probably deserves the chance to find out.

He was at Watford for about 3 months of the season and you're taking about champions league spots... Where did he leave them?

struggling to score goals and chances and put 3 past his Watford side.

People questioned Martinez and used the Wigan relegation as a stick to beat him with.

This guy has got relegated and got sacked from his last two English clubs, now all of a sudden he is meant to be good enough for Everton?

TBF, we were probably offering him around 4x what he was on at Watford. Not sure how many of wouldn't pull a neck muscle ourselves, turning our heads with that kind of interest - regardless how long we'd been at a new employer. Plus, there aren't many other clubs who could offer him a multiple of what we'll pay. And if one does, then he'll have been doing one hell of a job for us at that stage.

Have to say this is exactly my thinking as well mate. Hull was a dogs dinner of a team who where no hopers when he took over, they beat both Utd and Liverpool and ultimately where relegated eventually but played on the front foot. Watford looked a side re-born until we turned our attention to them. He takes the game to the opposition. After the dirge of this season and failing to score in the first half of 9 of the last 10 home games i for one want to see us build an attacking team capable and willing to have a go at any side in the division.
I want to see him blend our talented youth players with a few important experienced players into a cohesive unit that play good quality football. That may take time in the premier league but some of the youth that we have are potentially very special players, Lookman and Dowell, both have experience but we need to be patient with them and the new management team.

But by the same logic, his potential as a coach has been limited by the quality of the clubs he is at, it hypothetical all you can do is judge his achievements and success in a context.

Its a bit mad really all we have been hearing on here for the last number of months is fans wanting the club to appoint an up and coming manager and take risks, well here you are.

Regardless of the job he's doing mate, would you really want to lose our manager 2-3 months into the season after said manager had only joined that summer?

Any good he'd done at that point would surely be erased by the chaos that would engulf us due to him leaving mid season and us having to scramble to replace him?

This is why I don't get the "He'll have to have been doing great with us to get a move!" argument being made about his flightiness

That makes perfect sense if he had an amazing season with us and then got tempted away at the end of it

It'd be disappointing sure, but not a disaster as we'd have ample time to replace him and we could build on the previous great season

But if he ducks out in October/November, it doesn't matter how great he's done for the first few months of the season because it would completely destabilise the team and undo all the good work in an instant, especially if his replacement looked at things different tactically and had to get the players essentially "re-trained" to a new style mid season

If it were me and I was having a good run at a club, I'd want to see it through to the end of the season and then weigh up my options once it was over. That's the sensible and reasonable way to behave in such a situation IMO, especially if you've literally only just arrived at your current club

Yeah he will have done great with us to have other clubs sniffing around, but that'll only make the fall even more bruising if he swaps horses mid race

I hear you and I'm not necessarily advocating Silva. I'd give him my fullest support if he rocked up, but would probably prefer Emery. Not least of all for the style that his Sevilla side tore into the sh1te in that final. (And because he reminds me of Dracula). Anyhow, what I'm saying about Silva, is that to get another move 'above and beyond' us, would take one huge salary leap. He'd need surely need time with us (i.e. beyond his first couple of months), to justify that? So I doubt he'd be that much of a risk in terms of jumping ship early.

In terms of having his head turned - don’t think he was the only manager we approached, I’m positive the likes of Tuchel were sounded out. He will have told us to jog on. Dyche may have been asked the question as well. Nothing came of it.

All it takes is for us to start gang busters and another club with money sacking their manager early on and...

He unfortunately now has a rep for it, which makes him a big gamble

dyche would have taken it i reckon, he was just a bit cleverer in deflecting the questions and tbf it didnt affect his job at burnley
