Everton where handed a very favourable set of fixtures to open the season.

To have taken just 7 points from those games and each of those games where hardly convincing wins.

Time for the bin.

I just hope Brands has done the correct planning for the replacement.

10 fixtures really. Opening 10 only man city is the game you looked at and thought possibly nothing there.
Cant stress enough how big next 3 are. Burnley west ham brighton. That will be 10 league games. If we are struggling to get to 10 points from there that is nailed on relegation form.
Scary.

The league form is the problem.

Beating a Championship reserve team is nothing.

Basically we had another crap pre-season and that carried on into this campaign. He and his coaching staff seem unable to get us ready for a season. If what he said was true, in that Iwobi was one of his prime targets. Why did we wait until the last minute to sign him?

Tactically we look short - we have one gameplay and that is attacking via the flanks with the full-backs providing the creativity. Nothing goes through the middle. Teams know how to set-up against us and once they nullify our fullbacks its game over - he doesn't have a plan B.

I don't think he actually knows what he's doing. I think this level of management is beyond him. He's a chancer just like Matinez was.

Reason being is that he approaches every game pretty much the same home and away.

We've a good enough quality squad to dominate possession against most teams. The problem is we can't break sides down who park the bus and play on the counter.

We play the same against teams who attack and we cause problems or tend to win those games.

He needs to change and adapt for the needs of each game rather than set up the same.

Some say we've a striker problem. I don't think we have. I feel it's our approach play that's a problem especially against teams that are difficult to break down.

Tosun is probably the best finisher at the club. Get him a chance in the box he'll score.
DCL biggest asset is his athleticism and heading ability.
Kean is explosive, strong, powerful.

You've 3 different types of striker yet we don't change approach play to suit them. He's got plenty of attacking players but seems to play the same way regardless.
This so much this.

Looking back with hindsight, I think he deserved to go after Millwall.

Now the board have backed him, they don't want to look silly by replacing him. But I think it's inevitable we will struggle and he'll end up going pre- Christmas.

We do the same every week, with the same players, the same tactics, the same subs and the same errors. I just don't think he's good enough to be our manager. No point letting another season go down the drain

I don't see a reason to bin him midway and appoint someone else to be fair.

If it's a poor season, it's poor either way. Getting someone in just to find a little bit of respectability to maybe finish 7th as he finds his footing just to then re-start for next season doesn't seem logical.

Finish the season with Silva. It's not up to standard he goes. Then fresh manager comes in and had a summer to prepare.

Theres zero chance of relegation. All their is, is a disappointing season

I have to admit I was in the keep camp, in that we do need a coach to build long term and we needed to give him the season. But the way we are chronically underperforming, his (stale tactics and baffling at times) substitutions are alarming me. It's making me question his abilities again as I was last January. He is an inconsistent coach at a time where we need consistency, maybe that's his style of play maybe that's because unless he has a full team he can't execute it? I think the next three games could define his Everton tenure. We did have a go yesterday but the same old flaws show up in terms of defensive mistakes and inability to take chances. But we do need a few results fast or he will be gone, long term plan or not. I have no idea who Brands would as a replacement I just want some hope that we can progress. Desperate for it. This season looks like another disappointment already.

Scary.

I would have the opposition as favourites in all 3 of those fixtures.

The team is flat and one-dimensional.

Played 2 newly promoted sides and lost 0-2 to both. That is a sackable offence in anyones book, and that's not including the embarrassment at Bournemouth.

Palace opening day, a side in total turmoil, best player handing in a transfer request...

Lucky to get a 0-0.

Hope the club have a top manger lined up.

Pre-season doesn’t matter...apparently

Thing is while I agree on this it shouldn't be on our minds, what worries me is you cant look at the table and make a case for one club definitely going down, we dont have a Derby or Huddetsfiled and a couple of duffers to go with them.
The battle to be 4th from bottom is going to be much stronger then the battle for 4th, I hoped we would compete for the higher battle but its looking like the lower is more our battle ground this season.

You can understand the thinking, Walcott is one if not the fastest players at the club, we saw how DCL pace upset both Ferdinandino and Otomendi neither known for their pace of subtly in defending and so it proved, it was a good decision o start with Walcott considering the match ups and the logic. Pace and penetration hurt City yesterday and Walcott would have added to it in my opinion.

I think what you are guilty of is looking at tactics as strict, they are much more fluid then that, very few teams play a whole game with a strict formation these days, they are more fluid depending on the momentum of the game and formations interchange as the game progresses, its not a set and forget because Sky has a team lining up a certain way in a graphic, yesterday alone we changed formation three or four times.

To what success?

Well we created as much as City and broke even all over the pitch, if not more then City and broke even on possession XG, XA etc, any day you do that you havnt had a bad day as a manager, we didnt win of course but the tactics were right, but it was the difference in the quality of player and finishing that dictated the result in my opinion.

All this counts for nothing, it is goals that win games not possession or breaking away that is where our failure lies and for me that is Silva's system. It did not work in the other PL clubs he was at.

I am not certain the board have backed him, they have backed Brands.

Brands was key to the recruitment. He also vetoed Silvas request for Rojo.

Silvas demeanour is not one that would inspire me, and he appears more moody than usual currently, so god knows how he can fully motivate pampered multi millionaires with almost 0 affiliation to the club.

Rojo would have been a terrible signing.
