Martinez: Everton players fear Goodison Crowd

I don't think it's individuals. it's either a deliberate tactic or it's a general fear of overcommitting an attempted tackle and leaving a gap.

How many times have we heard Martinez, in post match interviews, mention our lack of intensity ? Maybe they just stand out in my mind, but it seems to be fairly common ?
Leaving gaps definitely and I think there is a naivety in the way a few players challenge for the ball. And we do need to press higher, but not doing that is often a sign of nerves.
But suppose I just feel like it's more than fair for fans to get frustrated with tactics or players who don't look bothered. But when you consider that Kone or Lennon would have fans on their back a lot sooner than Mirallas then desire to work for the team clearly won't win a lot of fans round.
Although I'm just waffling a bit now, the general point is that there's a massive gap between passionate discussions on players and tactics and people singling out players and clearly causing nerves and mistakes. Of course not every mistake is down to nerves but I just don't see how any fans can think it helps

Has anyone ever been to an away ground, sensed the tension there and heard some fans get straight onto the case of a few fans before they've had a chance to have an impact? If you have then try to convince me you haven't immediately got a lift. That's definitely happening at Goodison. My mate listens to the radio commentary and said it's commented on every single home game.
So everyone can be defensive but just try to at least wonder not if it's the biggest problem but whether it's helping us become a winning side or not.

Ultimately they all work for us, the fans.

If the fans aren't happy with what is happening on the pitch then it is incumbent upon the staff and players to react accordingly. If we aren't happy then the entire point of the club is undermined.

Its a joke. If the players got stuck in from the first minute, showed some passion and looked capable. Then there was be no hostile atmosphere.

When we see the team casually jogging around letting a team like Swansea score 2 past us in the first half. With Howard trying to score a conversion with Ayew's legs.. of course were going to boo and be upset.

Martinez needs to go. He has assembled a fine group of players and I thought maybe he could adapt tactically and see the obvious faults like Howard etc. But he seems oblivious to the problems.

Just confused by this. Thought the general consensus was that we are having a go at teams too much and being let down by defensive naivety.

But we can't have it both ways. Some people saying we are the paying customers and what we say goes and others saying we can't just be happy clappers. As I see it we are part of what's going on, part of the entertainment. If I went to the cinema then I'd definitely get someone shouting abuse every time an actor he didn't like chucked out. As it is that's not football. We're not just the customer. We're part of what can make or break the whole thing. And if I want to turn up there and feel part of a crowd that's intimidating the opposition, and that's not happening then I'm gonna have a moan at those people stopping that happening. Just as valid as moaning about the manager in the pub after.

It's a vicious circle in many ways and I'm sure the crowd's response is making things worse. I'm equally sure that the manager and the players could do things to improve the situation.

This really is masterful from Bobby. Instead of discussing any of the other myriad of things negatively affecting our performance he's pointed the finger at the fans.

Look at how much bickering is going on over the justifications of making your feelings heard at the match. For every minute one of us, or a journo, or even Rio bloody Ferdinand is spending debating whether the fans are right to have a go at the players that's another minute not spend criticising the players or the manager for what is frankly a pathetic run of results in the last 18 months and no signs of improvement.

I found this forum after growing tired of the Americans in r/everton as well. Clueless bunch. First post as well

Hahahaha I'm from the states and grew sick of them as well. All seem to be convinced Howard is a scapegoat and that we need to support Martinez as he needs 5 years to get champions league. Well I certainly haven't seen much progression on that 5th place finish in 13/14....

Nail, head, hit!! THIS

Hopefully these comments will be the last straw for those who will cling to the daft idea he is the right man for the club, he wont point the finger at himself, wont point the finger at Howard, couldn't blame the ref this week, he really is on thin ice now, lets hope the sun comes out and melts it quick.

This whole episode is symptomatic of a crisis of confidence and a huge amount of uncertainty that exists within the club at every level.

The Board, the management team, the manager, the playing staff all present many questions unanswered and becoming increasingly a burden on the whole season.

Just consider the unanswered questions.

Off the pitch:

Our Chairman (I accept why unanswered but unanswered nevertheless), the role of the Board, the potential change of ownership, the commercial performance and lack of leadership from our executive officers, the status of the stadium, our ability to compete financially in the Premier League?

On the pitch:

2.5 years in to "project Martinez" - how further along are we than 18 months ago?

The disconnect between a team capable of playing some of the best football in 30 years and our results.

Our ability to retain our young talent, our "core"

Individual errors, tactical naivety, inconsistency etc etc

The point is whilSt all these issues exist we have the potential certainly within the playing squad to at least bring a modicum of success to the club, be it a Cup or qualification for Europe as a minimum.

However until we find leadership among the resources available to us as it stands or there's a change of ownership I suspect we're going to do no better on or off the pitch.
Inevitably off field issues will permeate through the organisation. But as much as it's tempting to reach for that as a partial explanation of a current on-field malaise, I have to say that the playing side can be improved a lot by - as you put it - use of resources available. Specifically: drop the GK (forever) and the fans need to do their job too. If those two fall into place we can progress up the table.

This is the reason Wednesday presents us with such a good opportunity. Robles will be in goal and the away fans are a different breed to the home support.

Maybe just maybe Martinez should sort the teams defensive issues out first so we don't keep dropping points against teams we should be beating at home before critising the paying fans. Just a thought considering that's his job and gets paid a fortune for.

7000 of the supporters who were at the match today, will be at the Etihad on Wed. They don't go to boo or c

A chorus of boos at Old Trafford and Van Gaal comes out and says sorry to the fans for letting you down.
Martinez should be saying the same to Our supporters.

I have supported Everton since the sixties and have seen heaven and hell in equal measure, but the one thing I cannot abide with this current situation is that everybody on the planet now knows how to play against us! Roberto does not strike me as a stupid man, so he must see this too, yet he does nothing to change things on the pitch? I see lots writing on her about the cup saving our season, does anybody here seriously think we can survive against Liverpools style? Fast, pressing football! Our Kryptonite this season, is Klopps stock in trade, so i see no opportunities for glory there, unless attandance at a final would suit some Evertonians even if it meant getting beat by the RS? Been there, done that,
